AT&T has confirmed to Phone Scoop via email that it will no longer offer its Video Share service. Video Share was launched in 2007, and let customers in 3G markets (with the properly equipped phones) conduct one-way video streams during voice calls. At the time, there were no competing services, such as Skype, FaceTime, or Fring. In a statement, AT&T said, "AT&T is discontinuing our Video Share service. As we look ahead to the next generation of live, mobile video calling services, we’re evaluating new platforms and other ways we can evolve our mobile video calling offers. We’ve already begun to notify subscribers directly and will work with them to adjust their monthly charges accordingly." Phone Scoop attempted many times to test Video Share over the years, but was never able to get it to work. It required a monthly service fee, which provided a defined number of minutes that could be spent streaming video. The service will go dark later this year.
