Curitel To Buy Audiovox Communications

Audiovox announced today that it has signed a non-binding letter of intent to sell a controlling interest in its wireless subsidiary, Audiovox Communications Corp. (ACC) to Korean phone manufacturer Curitel. Currently, Audiovox owns 75% of ACC and Toshiba owns the remaining interest. Curitel currently manufactures phones sold in ACC's 8000 model series, while Toshiba supplies phones for the 9000 series.

The FCC has just adopted an even stricter stance against communications equipment from Chinese companies such as Huawei and ZTE, implementing a more complete ban. The US government has already taken a number of steps to constrain Chinese telecom equipment companies in recent years, effectively shutting them out of the US market, as well as many western markets.
