LG Electronics has joined a working group with the goal of creating a handset version of Nokia and Intel's MeeGo operating system. The news comes from Valtteri Halla, a member of technical steering group of MeeGo, who said that Nokia's abandonment of Meego is "opening opportunities for the others to come in. Discussions are taking place. You'll see things coming out this year, pretty soon." MeeGo is the Maemo/Moblin mobile Linux-based platform it was developing to eventually succeed Symbian. Earlier this year, Nokia shifted strategies and instead decided to build its future smartphones using the Windows Phone 7 platform from Microsoft.
