Connecticut Dialing Up Harsher Penalties for Drivers Who Talk
Apr 15, 2011, 12:42 PM by Eric M. Zeman
Connecticut's Judiciary Committee has voted in favor of new penalties to be levied against drivers caught talking on their phones when behind the wheel. The new laws would give police officers the power to confiscate a driver's license for a 24-hour period (at the officer's discretion), which would keep the offender off the road for a day. The law also ups the penalty for repeat offenders from $150 to $500. The laws still have to clear Connecticut's House of Representatives. Talking on the phone while driving has been outlawed in many states, as has texting.
