Apple Sues Samsung Over Galaxy Devices

Apple filed a fresh new lawsuit today against competitor (and business partner) Samsung. In the lawsuit, Apple alleges that Samsung's line of Galaxy Android handsets and tablets mimic the iPhone and iPad. Part of the lawsuit explains, "Rather than innovate and develop its own technology and a unique Samsung style for its smart phone products and computer tablets, Samsung chose to copy Apple's technology, user interface and innovative style in these infringing products." The Galaxy S, for example, looks similar to the iPhone 3G/3GS, and the 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab shown at the recent CTIA trade show resembles the basic look of Apple's iPad. Apple is a major customer of Samsung, and uses its components in many of its own products. Apple's terms weren't made public.

Why not? Every manufacture in business today makes the same phone: a black, rectangular phone with a large touchsceen and 1 or more buttons on the bottom. Why target the galaxy line? Because their phones have a chrome strip around the side? BS. Take a look at any android phone from HTC, Motorola, Sony or LG and you'll see they all the same basic form factor. Heck, even the Blackberry storm and Palm pre's are similar. If Apple is gona sue one companuy over this design, they may as well sue the whole industry. All I've got to say is, good luck.

Does anyone here think Samsung came to these designs by themselves?

So a lot of people are saying "BS, Apple is just jealous" , but really here, can anyone come up with an argument that Samsung isn't basing its designs on the iPhone?

Can anyone make a reasonable argument that phones such as the Galaxy 4G (with its rounded back and chrome bezel) came about through Samsung's own design evolution instead of saying "this [iPhone] is successful, lets mimic it"

How many different designs can you come up with anymore for a phone??? I have not seen a "New" phone in a long time; so does that mean that if a company comes out with a new design that they can sue ANYONE who makes one that resembles their product???...

There is no question about it.

I don't know if Apple should sue or not, but these phones are incredibly similar in style, to the point that it almost seems like Samsung is blatently copying the look and feel of Apples products.

It's kind of silly to consider a fragmented, poorly secured, less stable OS a superior OS. Openness is nice, and Android has its merits...but it still has a long way to go to reach the level of excellence the iOS experience has achieved.
