Sprint and Clearwire today announced a new financial arrangement regarding Sprint's wholesale use of Clearwire's WiMax network. Sprint has agreed to pay Clearwire $1 billion in 2011 and in 2012, which includes usage fees of $300 million in 2011 and $550 million in 2012. The two companies also ironed out the wholesale pricing for Sprint devices that operate on both Sprint's 3G network and Clearwire's 4G network. This device agreement includes the parameters for usage-based pricing, volume discounts, and includes minimum payments per 4G device activated. The agreement also covers Sprint's plans to offer business- and government-focused services via Clearwire's WiMax network. The two companies believe that the new arrangement will help them move forward in the competitive landscape.

2. Sprint still wont waive any fee associated with 4G when 4G or even Sprints own 3G doesnt work or slows to a speed deemed unusable.

3. Volume pricing means nothing to the consumer since we arent going to actually pay LESS for 4G even if its costing Sprint and Clearwire LESS to deliver

4. Clearwire is STILL broke, and 4G WiMAX (even their 4G LTE) have all but stalled across most areas of the nation, and where service is launched it is only on select city blocks of launched markets and rarely gets the advertised speeds.

5. EVERY SINGLE company ...

Your negativity is overwhelming. Thanks!

Other than the obvious that Sprint is using this 4G to cover its phones...how does any of this news directly effect consumers good or bad (as your rant is going on about)? But just to try to clarify a few things.

This Is Good To See

Sprint would do well to find any roaming partners besides Verizon. No sense in lining those guys pockets with roaming revenues. This wouldn't be so necessary if Sprint had taken Scott Ford up on his offer to merge Alltel with Sprint on multiple occasions. It's sort of a "make your bed now lay in it" thing I guess.
I think Sprint would have really been ahead of the game if they would have made a lot of better decisions. Only way to win big is to bet big seems to be their motto. Well with big volatile bets comes big negative odds, which they have came to know qui...
