BlackBerry Balance Better Manages Work, Personal Data
May 2, 2011, 7:55 AM by Eric M. Zeman
RIM today introduced new software for BlackBerries that is meant to help businesses and those businesses' employees better separate the work and personal content on their devices. BlackBerry Balance sandboxes work and personal data into two different areas on the phone. The work data is kept secure and cannot interact with the user's personal content. The end-user experience, however, is seamless and doesn't make the user aware of the different profiles. Users won't be able to share content between work and personal profiles, such as to Facebook, Twitter or Gmail. BlackBerry Balance will also allow IT departments to remotely wipe the business data from a BlackBerry, while leaving the personal data intact. BlackBerry Balance is built into BlackBerry OS 7, but will also work with BlackBerries running OS 6. Availability wasn't announced.
