Apple Proposes New SIM Card Standard

Apple has submitted a proposal to the European Telecoms Standards Body (ETSI) that would define a SIM card that's smaller even than the microSIM it uses in the iPhone 4 and iPad. Apple proposed the smaller SIM card standard so it can further reduce the size of SIM cards needed in its devices and allow for thinner future products. Apple has the backing of network partner Orange in France, which believes Apple is taking the correct route by going through a standards body to define the new SIM card's dimensions. An Orange representative said that devices with the new SIM cards could hit the market as soon as next year. The microSIM in the Apple iPhone 4 isn't compatible with the standard SIM cards used in most GSM phones, meaning they aren't easily swapped between devices.

Why?

I wish I could understand Apple's obsession with thinness....that's the main reason the iPhone battery sucks so much....the phone is too fricking THIN....make it a little thicker and the battery will last 10 times as long.....no more daily charging....

I wonder how many normal sized phones have developed anorexia trying to be as thin as the iPhone.....this promotes a poor body image! 🤣
Apple is more about fashion than function.

I get 14 hours with my iphone4, with texting all day and using data and e-mail. Thats the longest Ive ever had with the 40 something cell phones ive had in 6 years. you must have a bad phone

That's because Apple likes everything to be proprietary, which is ****ing retarded!

Regardless of battery life, people will still buy the phone. Honestly there are more people out here who want a slim phone compare to a big block phone. Smartphones regardless will always have the same battery problem. Thats why they sell extended lif...

Apple hates sim standard

They don't want users removing the SIM and switching to another device. That is why they went microsim and are trying to go smaller.
actually apple applying it to be a standard means youll be seeing other phones(not only apple phones) with these kind of sim card slots..making it easier to switch from an iphone to a samsung for example.

LEAVE THE SIM CARD ALONE

Jeez, it isn't broke. Don't try fixing it.

Apple will not be developing a phone so small that the standard sim cannot fit.

If they wanted to they could have made enough space on the iPhone 4, and for sure could have made space on the iPad.

Their reason for trying to make a new standard is just selfishness on their part.

Micro SIMs

Are just regular SIM cards without the extra plastic. They're 100% compatible with an X-acto knife.
Provided you have the surgical precision required to cut it 'exactly right', which most people do not have.

The only reason Apple likes the micro-SIM is because they want the SIM to be incompatible with other phones so that people are 'locked in' t...

We don't need anymore bs from apple

everyone knows that sim cards could be made smaller. Why do need apple to convince the world the need for a smaller sim card so that next year they can tell us we need another new smaller sim card.
Of course, many people already complain that standard SIM cards are ALREADY too small and that they can't grasp it to remove from their phone...so why not make that problem EVEN WORSE?
