RIM Handing Pink Slips to 2,000 Workers
Jul 25, 2011, 7:09 AM by Eric M. Zeman
Research In Motion said that it plans to trim its workforce by 2,000, which amounts to just over 10% of its entire employee base. In addition to the layoffs, the company is also shuffling around a number of managers. Its chief operating officer, Don Morrison, plans to retire. Thorsten Heins will replace him as COO and also assume responsibility for products and sales. RIM had announced its intent to reduce its workforce in June, but didn't indicate how many employees might be let go. RIM's co-CEOs, Jim Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis, remain unaffected by the changes.
