Microsoft Trumps Google's Accusations with an Email

On Wednesday, Google published a blog post accusing Apple, Microsoft, and Oracle of using patent litigation as a weapon to stifle Android's availability. Google specifically called the companies out for blocking it from acquiring Novell and Nortel patents in recent auctions. Microsoft, however, produced an email wherein a Google employee turned down Microsoft's invitation to bid jointly on the Novell patents. The email directly contradicts the accusations made by Google regarding the patent auctions. Nearly all the major manufacturers of smartphones are involved in patent litigation with one or more of its competitors. The acquisition of patents via these auctions is seen as a means of defense against the lawsuits. Google holds only a fraction of the patents that its competitors do.
