The judge overseeing the Department of Justice lawsuit against AT&T has set a preliminary court date of September 21. The judge expects to receive amended plans from AT&T, Deutsche Telekom, and the Justice Department by September 16, and all the parties involved "shall be prepared to discuss the prospects for settlement" at the court hearing on September 21. The Justice Department sued AT&T on August 31 in an attempt to block its proposed acquisition of T-Mobile USA. AT&T and Deutsche Telekom, T-Mobile USA's parent organization, vowed to fight the lawsuit. While the Justice Department said that the acquisition would be harmful for consumers, it left room for AT&T and Deutsche Telekom to negotiate. Both AT&T and Deutsche Telekom indicated they are willing to make concessions in order to help push the deal through.
