Verizon Wireless spokesperson Brenda Raney confirmed to the Wall Street Journal that the company intends to expand the $50 prepaid plan it has been testing for several months to most markets across the U.S. on Thursday. The plan offers unlimited talk, text, and web for $50 per month. Daily rates and per-minute/text rates are available, too, along with separate monthly texting bundles. "This is a very competitive market, and we want to make sure we have a price portfolio to fit a greater number of customers," said Raney. "In these times, there are some people who would prefer living on a prepaid plan." The plan will only be compatible with four phones to start, made by LG, Pantech, and Samsung, though Raney didn't specify which devices. The plan will not be compatible with smartphones. The plan competes with similar prepaid offerings such as those from Virgin Mobile and MetroPCS. The plan will be sold at Verizon Wireless stores, as well as Best Buy, Target, and Wal-Mart.

Thank You Big Red
For finally realizing that people sometimes would prefer pre-paid over post-paid.
Now all they have to do is realize people don't want to pay an extra $100 for a smartphone all because it has LTE in it.
RadioShack
Don't Forget The Shack has Verizon now.
If this offered BETTER PHONES, Verizon would SINK everybody....
Verizon has the best native network with ATT on it's heals. Data-wise, coast to coast 3G coverage nationwide, Verizon smokes anyone else. The fact that the minor amount of roaming you do with Verizon is not included would not be an issue for most. The problem is, THESE PHONES ARE AWFUL!! Seriously Verizon, you would sink Boost, Virgin, Straight Talk, ATT Go Phones & basically any prepaid deal if you would at least allow some basic smartphones on this deal. I understand the rationale behind not allowing 4G LTE Devices or even upper-end Androids, Blackberries and Iphones on this deal but maybe a basic Android phone like the Motorola Citrus & some basic Nokia Smartphones would be great. You would hear Ross Perot's "sucking sound" of customers ...

I would tell everyone I know about this if Verizon even offered up some low end smartphones. Leave the premier 4G/LTE stuff and high-end 3G stuff for postpaid only so they can make more on that. Boost, Virgin, Straight Talk, Net10, T-Mobile, Simple Mo...

Here is the tricky part.
VZW will offer this plan, but the web will probably be offered on Basic WAP 2.0 enabled devices. Smartphones will still need to get a separate data package....
Wonder if they will allow us to use phones we already have, such as the ENV 2?
