Google and Visa today announced that Google has licensed Visa's near-field communications-based payment technology called payWave. Licensing the technology gives Google the ability to allow customers with Visa-backed accounts add their credit, debit, and prepaid accounts to Google Wallet. Visa payWave let people make payments at retail locations by waving their mobile phone in front of a payment terminal. According to Visa, payWave is accepted at hundreds of thousands of locations around the world. Google believes the licensing deal will help it boost consumers' interest in NFC-based payment services.
