Opera Browsers for Android Now Show Data Usage

Opera Software today announced Opera Mini 6.5 and Opera Mobile 11.5 for the Android platform. Both browsers offer a handful of new features for Android handsets, the most significant of which is a data usage counter that shows users how much data they are using and how much data they are saving while using the Opera browsers. The idea behind the feature is to give those who are roaming on data networks in other countries a better idea of how much data they are consuming. Opera claims that Opera Mini compresses mobile web page data by 90%, which translates to savings when roaming abroad. The refreshed browsers also now have a tool that lets users import the bookmarks from the desktop version of Opera to their handsets. Other new features include an updated Opera Turbo engine in Opera Mobile, support for embedded video on Honeycomb tablets, a revised rendering engine, improved network performance, and condensed use of JavaScript. Both browsers are free to download from the Android Market.
