Google Plugs Wallet Security Hole

Google has issued a patch for its Google Wallet product to close a loophole that could have been used to gain access to owner funds. Specifically, the fix prevents an existing prepaid card from being re-provisioned by another user in the event that the phone is lost or stolen. Google says to its knowledge no one has been affected by this exploit, and assures its customers that Google Wallet is secure.

This fall, California's existing mobile-ID (mID) program will expand to support an official state-issued ID within Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. (Currently, CA's mobile-ID only works within the state-issued app.) California will join Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, Maryland, and Ohio in supporting IDs in Apple Wallet.

November Security Patch Fixes Major Security Hole in Pixel Phones

Google has fixed a serious bug that allowed anyone with physical access to a Pixel phone to bypass the lock screen and access the home screen and all phone data. The exploit required only an extra SIM card to which the attacker knows the PUK (recovery PIN) code.
