Verizon Wireless today announced that it has agreed to purchase spectrum and other assets from Plateau Wireless, a subsidiary of E.N.M.R. Telephone Cooperative and Plateau Telecommunications. Verizon is seeking Plateau's cellular, PCS, and AWS spectrum, along with its customers and GSM operations located in southeastern New Mexico. The licenses cover about 260,000 POPs across 26,000 square miles. The largest markets contained therein include Roswell, Carlsbad, Artesia, and Hobbs. Verizon said that the acquisition would help it expand its coverage and brand in the region. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, and Verizon expects the deal to close mid year pending regulatory approval.
