Confused... Is Helio ONLY available with a Helio Carrier?

In other words, if T-Mobile doesn't offer it, you can't get it without cancelling your current plan? (newbie to all this cell stuff here) Anyone know?? t/y xxx
Helio is only with Helio. The Company only uses Services from other phone companys. Helio uses Verizon Wireless, sprint Pcs. So you will always have service. ( this is very true, i have had all wireless service's even prepaid. and helio has never drop...

No charm or strap hole for drift!!??

What do i do?? I really wanted it. Do you have any ideas to attach a charm or strap to it or should i go ask the people?? 😳 😡 The Fin and the hero and the others all have it. why doesn't this???
You could use something that you can put the Drift into that has a cord on it. They make a sock like...thing that serves that purpose. Or I guess use something (read: duct tape) to affix your charm/strap to it... Why is the presence or lack there of o...

media

Does anyone know how to transfer media onto the drift?
You can download the Media Mover application from their web site (it's under Support). I don't know if they plan to change it but the link says that Media Mover app is for the Hero and the Kickflip but it works fine with my Drift.

The program itsel...

Unlocked Drift

Can I purchase one unlocked and have Verizon activate it? I saw in a previous post that Helio uses verizon's network

Thanks for your time! 😁
No. Sorry.

And BTW, Helio uses Sprint.

Can you record your own ringtones at all?? (Don't have the phone yet)

I was just wondering because thats my big thing. I want to be able to use my MP3's to record my own ringtones and I heard that I can also record Answer tones ( Where some one calls and gets to hear my wonderful music that I actually recorded.) Please give me some details, or the Scoop on it. Much appreciated.

Memory Cards

Hey, I'm pretty new to the whole memory card deal with the Drift and I was wondering if this card would work with the drift.

I was just wondering because the way the card looked was different than the one on helios site under accessories when you are checking out.... 😕
May be a stupid question, but I just wanna make sure.
no this memory card wont work for your phone. ist not a stupid question... the card in the photo is a 'mini' SD what you want is a 'micro' SD. the drift will take up to 2 gigs, but dont get one that is more then 2 gigs because it will be a wast of mon...

Eric, is it possible to upload "your own mp3 ringtones" to Drift?

Just out of curiosity, as far as I know, you could not upload your own mp3 ringtones to Hero nor Kickflip.
Thanks in advance.
i believe that's still impossible. i haven't found a way to do it, not even a work-around.

Quality of Helio service

I am seriously considering dropping Verizon and my vx8300 for Helio and the Drift. I live in the Los Angeles area and am curious about the quality of coverage and calls. For those who have used Helio, have you expericed many dropped calls or areas without any service. This phone is very enticing, yet the primary function of a cell phone is to make and receive calls. If anyone has any input it would be greatly appreciated...thanks 😁
Helio uses Sprint's network so (in theory) it should be exactly the same. Since the likelihood of finding another Helio user within ten miles of you is pretty slim, you'd probably be better off asking people you know that use Sprint in your area.

Hi,
Has anyone been able to sync the Drift with Outlook Contacts and Calendar?

Very Impressed

I am extremely impressed with not only this phone, but with Helio as well. They have done very well for a new phone company in a very competitive market. I am a big fan of Samsung phones and this phone seems to suit all of my needs. I love the innovative phones that Helio offers and I think that this phone is a perfect addition to their line-up.

Ok so i'm impressed but...

For anyone who actually has the phone and has used the buddy beacon feature, how well does it really work? Can you find a friend at say a house you’ve never been to before?

How about the myspace thing? I checked my myspace using the display phone and here are the results I got. Some pictures loaded some didn’t, for some content on my comments page I couldn’t see the entire comment because I needed to be able to scroll to the right but the phone didn’t let me.

I’m with verizon right now and I am not impressed with the selection of media on v-cast, how is the selection of movies for helio?

Lastly, I tried to download music but I couldn’t due to some weird error. How much does it cost to download a song?

Hey, thanks guys 😁...

Can various functions be performed on this phone while it is closed? How about speakerphone and making/receiving calls?

Many thanks, and happy thanksgiving 😁
Yes you can make calls when the phone is closed, if you hold down any button while it is closed it will ask you "Key Lock State Unlock Key Input?" and if you hit yes you can use all the buttons. Hit the gree to view your call hist., hit menu to get to...

activating phone

I just called helio to activate my phone and got the numbers to put into the phone. however, when i turned on the phone, i was not taken to the screen where i was to enter my mobile number and account number, but was taken to the home screen. This apparently means my phone is activated but I can't make or receive calls, use the internet, or download any content. Any suggestions?

Thanks
Call customer service? Thats the only thing I can think of besides going through the manual step by step...

I've heard horror stories about the customer service though, so they might not help much either.

bogus battery life

I've had my Drift for just a few days now and the biggest red flag so far is the battery life. It got shipped to me around noon the day I got it. I plugged it in shortly after, fully charged it (took less than an hour), and then proceeded to goof around surfing the web and playing with the GPS. By 10 PM, the battery was nearly dead.

So I charge it up overnight and bring it to work. The second day of my dear Drift's life saw just moderate text messaging, less than 30 minutes of talking, and a few minutes of entering in some of my phone numbers. Due to a busy day, I didn't have much time to do anything else with it and yet again, it was completely dead at the end of the day.

I don't know about you but I'm used to getting a solid two days...

GPS Questions

Hey Drift-ers,

I have a few questions before I buy. Thanks in advance!

1) Is the accuracy of the GPS comparable to that of a stand-alone GPS device? How is quality affected in the city or inside a building? Could I pinpoint where on a city block I was?

2) Can you see your raw latitude and longitude?

3) Now this is a long shot: does anyone know how the you could expose your GPS coordinates to a third-party website or application on the phone? Could anyone write a program like Google did and put it on the phone?

Thanks,
Turrent
I called Helio's customer service before I bought my Drift and asked them similar questions. Because I wasn't a customer yet, they wouldn't transfer me to tech support to answer my nerdier questions.

My first question was whether you could use the ...

Web Browser?

Eric,

I was wondering what your initial impressions of the Web Browser... I'm a Sidekick3 user, and one of the main reasons I use the fone are for its web-browsing features^^;

I stopped by a Helio dealer today, (they didn't have a drift) and played w/ a hero to see if I would be willing to pay the $200 cancellation fee w/ T-mobile in order to get a Drift....

Unfortuantely... I found it slow, and impractical... I don't mind WAP only, but the fact that I have to exit the browser to do ANYTHING else on the fone really kills it for me... The SK3 isn't the GREATEST Multi-tasker, but I can switch between processes really easily, without having to stop one in order to do another..

Did samsung improve anything? Is it any snappier? are yo...

My experience with the web browser has been mixed. First of all, "lightning fast" (quoted from Helo's site) is still a vast exaggeration but I'm going to assume it's as fast as any other "3G" network.

Seems flimsy

Build quality is not good; top moves side to side and does not feel secure. I have had the phone for four days and am still waiting for their customer service to figure out how to activate my phone. I think it is going back and I will be off to Nextel for the i880-- I want REAL GPS with turn by turn directions which this phone can't provide.

The MP3 player...

With the Hero you can only listen to a stored mp3 while in the player app, but with most phones I've used you can listen to a song while reading a text, or checking the calender, or doing pretty much anything. The mp3 plays in the background. how is it with the drift?

(sorry for all the questions, these have been keeping me up at night!)
it took me long enough. i have good news and bad news to report about the music player setup.

first the bad news, because it answers your question. The only thing you can do while the media player is playing is send or view text messages. you canno...
