Phone Dimensions

Looking through the FCC docs there is a picture of the phone with a ruler next to it. I rotated it without zooming to get the width as well.

It looks to be almost exactly 13.5cm tall, including the antenna stub, and 6cm wide.

The body of the phone without the antenna stub is closer to 11.25cm.

I didn't see a good way to measure the thickness just yet... and best I can tell the antenna extends another 8cm out. (Which makes sense since my current Samsungs antenna also extends to 8cm).

I love the size of this phone...I'm salivating. 😛 It's a perfect happy medium between the too large and too wide full sized PDA phone and the smartphones that lack some desired functionality.

Phonescoop listing

Hey Rich Brome, why isn't this phone listed under the samsung page under "phones", or the the FCC approvals page? Is it to avoid the 5 zillion pages of stuff like when the v710 was announced?

wifi and release ? on i730

who thinks verizon would disable the wifi on the samsung?

you know... to promote the need for higher minute plans? notice the XV-6600 has no wifi, but the sister model from cingular does?

also, would verizon more likely delay the i730 since they just released the XV-6600???
Actually, Verizon's CDMA version of the UTStarcom (Audiovox) XV6600 is broadband enabled as well as EVDO enabled. Wi-Fi is a term no longer used by VZW as it's that old crappy thing which utilizes "hot spots" usually located in airports and coffee sh...

Technically, a phone like this should be able to use broadband access for voice as well as data. If it has access to free public networks, that would make the carriers very unhappy.

Clearly Verizon is not going to allow this, but how long will it b...

Will Verizon kill the bluetooth?

The big question for me is will Verizion neuter the bluetooth like they did on the Motorola v710? Verizon of course being the most likely carrier for this phone.

Cheers,
Tom

When?

This phone could be the reason I finally switch to verizon. Any idea when it might be available?
Verizon is expected to announce this phone at CES as part of their EVDO marketing push. I have heard that the phone will be available in March.

CDMA and GSM?

Does this mean they will have a GSM and CDMA version?
Not that I know of. This is a CDMA device. No GSM.

If they're working on a GSM version, they haven't announced it, and I haven't heard anything.
...
I believe this is a 3G only phone. Probably they have a UMTS version they are working on for Cingular and others. This may be where the division between GSM and UMTS begins.

Treo 650 Killer??

I was looking to get the Treo 650.. but this may just blow the Treo away. This is beautiful, bluetooth, Wifi, more memory and a 1.3mp cam. Deal breakers for me right now is that it isn't touchscreen, no SD card, and Ir. A sure fire deal breaker is no speakerphone. Samsung is good for not placing speakerphone on their phones. I can't see paying $600+ and the phone doesn't have speakerphone. Even the phone carriers are giving away free include speakerphone. I am big on that. Oh well, guess I am still looking for the everything phone.. so far the Benq p50 is reigning, but it hasnt got this far yet.
Both the Treo 650 and the i730 include a touchscreen and SD card slot.

Every Windows Mobile Pocket PC phone to date has included a speakerphone - I think it might be a required element of the platform - so I'm guessing the i730 has that as well. Sa...

I'm sure it will have a touchscreen and SD slot and I'd be amazed if there's no speakerphone. However I don't see this competing with the Treo 650 but rather the next Treo. How long ago was the i550 announced and it's still not out yet? How many de...

You really can't compare a Treo to this!

Pocket PC's are so much more capable than Treo's. It will have speakerphone and anything else you can think of!

The Treo from three years in the future will probably not have the capabilities this has....

Rich, bluetooth 1.1 or 1.2?

Rich, do you know what version of bluetooth is supported? I didn't see any user manual available. This may decide if I go with this or the HTC XV6600. Thanks.
According to the Bluetooth SIG web site, it's Bluetooth version 1.1.

Here are more details, including profiles supported:
