Docomo's HSDPA is delayed and it seems likely that cingular will be unable to have hsdpa up and running with adequate supply of handsets and/or data cards until late 2006.
That means verizon, alltel, and sprint will whip cingular on data thus helping them steal voice customers from cingular as well.
The safe/low risk path (GSM to UMTS) is screwing cingular/att in this case.

How is Alltel alowing its customers to buy EV-DO cards for laptop computers going to threaten Cingular?

I don't think Verizon is going to be too pleased to see that Alltel is using their EVDO service and offering it for cheaper than they are. 😲
oh well. atleast they are going to bring it out.
VZW will probably just change their pricing like they have been on their voice plans to compete on the data end (just my opinion) 😛
I doubt verizon or any other major carrier will care. Alltel has an insignificant service area and saving 10 dollars a month less means nothing if you are either paying roaming fees or unable to access a network. Many of the customers who use this sor...

I have a verizon number and Im porting it over to Cingular.Its a local call for my parents to call me. Would it remain a local call for my folks swithing over to a GSM netowrk. Is a netowrk issue or what?? SO in short, would it remain a local call for my folks. Thanks in advance for your help!
Of course not, why would it be a local call with one carrier and not with another. I mean geez, you are using the same number but there is no way it would remain a local call....
