motivation, not ambition...

Lest anyone think that AT&T is demonstrating ambition by deploying LTE to so many more markets by this summer, think again.

This is motivation, pure and simple, to avoid FCC penalties, as AT&T is facing a five year buildout deadline of June 13, 2013 for its Lower 700 MHz B block 12 MHz licenses. By mid June, AT&T must cover 35 percent of the geographic area of each CMA in which it holds the B block license.

So, this is a regulation lighting a fire under the ass of a stubborn, anti consumer wireless carrier and a prime example of why wireless industry regulation is generally a good thing.

Are there any regulations governing the spectrum T-Mobile has? That would force them to upgrade 2G EDGE to either 3G or 4G LTE at some point?

I'm glad that these 4G places are getting 4G LTE. I'm currently on the edge network. I expect better from you. Give me 3G at least you scrubs, good lerd.
