Too little too latr
As much as I hate to admit it, Blackberry lost its foot hold on the market by staying stagnant, when iPhone and Android landed they stayed complacent by staying with their Java based OS on very under powered hardware. And in the time it took for them to bring out modern looking smart phones, you have had the rise of Android as the dominant OS (not looking for a Android vs iPhone vs Windows Phone vs whatever else contest), iPhone was already on the rise, WebOS died out, Symbian was sent to pasture, Windows Phone 7-8 came out and sank faster then the HSM Titanic and Firefox OS has started showing up.
That is a LOT of time to wait for a new OS and human nature has proven one thing, we humans are a impatient bunch when it comes to waiting ar...

They should have adopted android 2 years ago and transitioned bbm and other blackberry services over as an overlay.
I think it is all to late now....
Innovate or die from your complacency. Or you can take the 3rd alternative and litigate, I suppose. That's currently a popular option.

I know what RIM stands for, but what does HMCS stand for?
Contrary to what people think, Android is not the save all OS. Blackberry running Android would not save it. It is the same reason Nokia decided to go WP7 & 8. They realized that they would be just another OEM in a sea of Android based phones.
