Magnet in carry case turs on lghts in phone!
Anyone else have this problem ? If I hold the phone in fornt of my case or put it inside, the lights turn on and the phone unlocks.
Is there a solution?
yah i had somthing like that happen too everytime i would take my phone out it would be on the internet, or some other feature would be activated.
i think the keys just kinda unlock to easyly like the other day i was at work and suddenly heard from...

I don't think it is the magnet that is unlocking your phone. It is the the phone moving and getting bumped in the case that hits the two unlock keys and then buttons continue to get pushed and when you reach in to get the phone out the keys are so se...

Walkman player in the W580 & W760
Does anybody here know the difference between the Walkman player in the W580 (v2.0) and the Walkman player in the W760 (v3.0)?

Cracked buttons theory
I am an AT&T employee who has been carrying this phone for over 8 months. In fact, my two brothers and my dad also upgraded to the W580 in December at the same time I did and we have never cracked any buttons. We have two black phones and two gray phones between the four of us. My cousin, also my co-worker, got his wife a pink W580 around January.
We have seen many of these phones returned and/or exchanged through warranty because of the buttons cracking. What we've noticed is that nearly all of the returned phones were either pink or white with a only 2 or 3 being black. My cousin says that he is pretty sure that the phones returned to our store for the buttons have only been by females. His wife has had hers replaced a several times and...

Great post! I agree completely with the fingernail theory. I also work for a wireless provider and have only seen white and pink 580's returned. A coworker and I both carried urban grey w580i's for over 6 months and neither of us (males) had any pr...

Difference from the w810?
Is this just a slide version of the w810? From what i can see there is no difference other than the slide feature. Does anyone else see a difference?
It's much thinner and lighter.
The display is QVGA, which is big step up from the W810.
The camera's not auto-focus, though, so you won't get the same amazing photo quality as the W810.
Stereo Bluetooth. The W810 didn't have that.
It also has the feature that allows you to switch tracks by a quick shake. Just flick your wrist left or right to fast forward or rewind through your songs. That was cool.

Slider powers phone off? and other problems.
Ok there's already mention of the slider ending calls in the Phone Scoop review, and I followed the instructions to change it to end call on slider shut.
The problem is that mine tends to power down when I have the slider open and shut it, either to end a call or if I had it open while listening to the walkman.
While powered off, I miss calls, and unless they leave a message I don't even get a missed call record!
Powering the phone on again (20x a day) is tedious, and I also want to get rid of the noisy, tedious, animated opening. Anyone know how to do this? Or at least mute it?
Otherwise, this phone rocks!
And to answer the question in Phone Scoop about how to get the shake 'n shuffle to work, you've got to be pressing the...

My daughter's w580i has a similar problem that I can't resolve. Sometimes if the phone is slid shut it powers off without the shutdown splash screen (as if you had pulled the battery). Anyone seen this recently?

Hazy photos?
My wife noticed her W580 brings up already taken photos a little fuzzy, then comes into focus a second or two later. Does anybody experience the same thing? If so, does AT&T know about this as a common problem or is this normal for the phone? Thanks.
I've noticed that with mine as well, just wrote it off as normal. Haven't heard any different.

Two quick questions...
What have been your experiences with signal strength as well as dropped calls, and 2) what is the battery life like? Thanks! Peace. 3:16
Happy 4th! 馃榿
I've had the phone for about a week now. The first few days the battery would get really low before like 6 pm! Of course, I was using the walkman, playing games, and changing the theme every 2 seconds (It was a new toy lol). So yeah, the past few days...

Poor phone lock system
I love my W580i! It is such an improvement over my old V3m Razr, but it is certainly not without it's flaws. One in particular is not something I can tollerate much longer.
I am not exactly sure what is going on, but through some random (seemingly fairly simple) combination of accidental button presses while my phone is in it's case at my belt, or in my pocket, the phone will unlock, go to the calls menu and dial the last person I had talked to.
This has happened to me three times in the past 2 days, all three times while I am at work, and I don't know what to do as I use my phone while working to sell Cell One contracts, but I can't be tossing away all of my minutes by accidentally calling my girlfriend twice a day when I am supposed ...

I am having the EXACT same issue...what a a freakin, royal pain in the ARSE! I love the phone sans that problem. I even had it hook up to the internet once! wish the outside lock buttons could be disabled and just use the slider lock.
It is your magnetic latch on your case. Take your locked phone out of it's case and it probably is unlocked now. Relock it and pass it over the magnet on your case and VOILA unlocked..WTF!

unbranding
I'm considering unbranding this phone. If anyone has already done this I have a couple of questions.
The main reason I'm gonna do this is because I want to be able to set those 'cool' lights shooting out of the side of this thing to a different color. AT&t set them to green which doesn't match anything whatsoever on the phone. Why freakin green? Orange maybe to match the keys or something, but green? Anyway, will unbranding to original firmware make this happen?
I don't want to lose the easy tranfer of music using windows media player though, will it still sync so easily if I undbrand it.
Thanks for the time guys.
Unbranding brings back the shortcut key and allows 3rd party apps, no ringtone limit and orginal software. I did it last night and it only took 20minutes using the wontonserver: http://www.wotanserver.com/en/
Much better phone without the at&t stuff...

SpiralFrog
I have found this interesting site that allows you to download music free but it has Digital Magament RIghts and seems to only work through Windows Media Player. I tried to download these to my w580i but it does not recognize the songs. Or I should say does not play them. Is there any way to make these songs work on my SOny? Any thoughts? Thanks

Do you recommend a case for the W580?
I am going to buy this phone in a few weeks and have observed a few complaints about the feel of the phone. People are concerned that it could break easily.
Do you think buying a case would be a good idea? The type that stays on your phone all the time. A clear one. They have some inexpensive cases on Amazon that are interesting. Is a case a good idea?
Thanks in advance.

Fix Cracked Keys?
Hi, I've been thinking about buying one of these phones and was wondering if anyone has actually had their cracked keys fixed?
Also, if you unbrand the phone, does anyone know for sure if it is still covered by the AT&T, Best Buy, or Sony Ericsson warranties?
I've never personally come across a cracked set of keys, and am more then a little dubious of these 'reports' running around regarding them seeing how I text more then a 16 year old girl and mine have held up like champs. If they are damaged though, i...

mp3 ringtones
Hey for the people who have this phone! I have a few questions since I should be moving over soon! I wanted to know if you could set MP3s as ringtones? if you can then can you move them to your phone through the memory card and/or bluetooth? I also want to know if the phones slide mechanism has been wearing down? Some seem to wear in pretty fast and get loose! Also is the call volume loud and clear? thanks!!!! 馃檪
you can use mp3's as ringtones from either bluetooth or the micro sd. i only used this phone for a weekend and in that short time i noticed that the slide seems kinda unstable and you can hear the springs. i found myself trying not to open it and espe...
