Carriers To Test Video Ads on Phones

Wow! This is just going to far. How about NO! Verizon (or anyone else) won't get a dime from me for such a service.

I pay $15.00 a month for vCast, its so slow it takes so long until you are watching whatever you want to watch now its going to take even more time?? and how about making it cheaper because they are getting money from the big companys to adv. their product. this is not fair, if they put adds or should i say SPAM they should make it cheaper.

This is probably gonna suck down the battery like nothing other. Think about it video running on your phone pretty much all time after this idea takes off. I mean everyone gonna want to have ads. You'll walk past a newspaper stand and it'll give you a video saying buy the latest magazine from so and so, or you walk past a 7-11 and it'll say buy the new big gulp for 30 cents. Pretty soon they will have coupons coming to your phone that you can use.

You know when you call to refill your minutes on a cingular go phone.... You have to listen to an ad. It talks about ringtones and games and stuff usually relating to media net, but you have to sit there and listen. You can't skip it. Hopefully it wont turn oput to be stuff like this. That would be so annoying to have to sit and listen to an ad before you call is connected!

I have invented a new mobile platform (phone) that presents advertising to persons standing near a mobile phone user, while the the user speaks on the phone in a non-handsfree mode.

The user may get free talk time, content, etc. and not have to view the advertising him/herself. I posted one of the drawings at Core77, discussions, projects, or for the full patent applications:

A number of phone manufacturers and carriers have patents pending in this field.

Here is the way it will work. Verizon will tell you they have two video plans. One free with ads. One without that cost $9.95 a month with each download $1.99.

Then they will tell you they are doing away with the $1.99 per download charge but you will still have to pay the 10 bucks a month. And you will still get the ads.

So the big V still gets its 10 bucks a month out of you. They get the cash from sponsors and you get nothing but 10 bucks lighter in the wallet and a 2 minute ad for your 30 seconds of video.

Think of services like Yahoo and Google and how much they offer for free, paid for by ads on there pages. You can easily skip over them, but as long as like .02% of people click on them the service can remain free. I wouldnt mind some ads on my phone if itll make the service cheaper.

I just want to say I approve! I can surely listen or watch some ads to save me money. I mean seriously are ads really that bad? you all watch tv im sure. Plus its on your phone, you dont have to watch them. Great way for companies to promote new products as well. Im always interested in the newest developments.

the day is finally here when spam and junk is going to be on our phones. I wonder if there will be a spam blocker for them 🙂

Remember when tom cruise walked by that flatscreen dispaly in the movie and it started talking to him? Can't Sleep At Night blah blah blah? Well with this new wave of advertising its becoming reality! When you walk by a pepsi machine, your phone could start saying BOB arent you thirsty for an Ice cold pepsi? Scary Huh? Or when you drive through a city, Hilton hotels could start advertising BOB you should pull over and rest the the hilton garden inn and get a good nights rest, it's dangerous to be driving at this time of night. AHAHHAHAHH it's scary just thinking about all the possibilities. Of course you have to "opt in" for this kind of stuff to work initially, but you can bet that spammers have already figured out a way to exploit this new...
