Why not just sell placement?
This is so idiotic to me. Why don't they realize they'll make a lot more money by making it free to end-users and selling advertising and higher placement?
I just don't see a whole lot of people paying $3/month for this service just to find places to spend money that are near them. Especially considering the limited functionality of the service, which probably isn't precise enough to give you real-time driving directions to the place you've selected.

There is a good plan, although I would hate to deal with ads i would be more likely to use it than not if I didn't have to pay for the crap. Of course the first few days I'd spend testing the thing out to see how good it is but none-the-less I would ...

The system already has paid placement. The service is also $2.99/mo because apparently people are in the habit of paying for all mobile content in general.

Another nickle and diming scheam
Sprint just doesnt get it. I agree with the second post and find their ideas very interesting with the advertising and ranking. i didnt think of that. Im tired of sprint thinking they have to charge for every single service. they would keep more people and attract more people if instead they said: "Hey, we have figured out how to use the GPS in the phone so when your looking for Ruby Tuesdays in another state, it will automatically pick up your location and tell you which one(s) is closest to you, and were not going to charge you anything because we value your buisness" but thats crazy i guess, i mean, far be it from anyone to give anything away for being a paying customer. im almost suprised they didnt want to charge $4.99 instead. for the ...

Google Local Mobile
Google Local Mobile (located here: http://www.google.com/glm/) is free and works on existing handsets. However, it is not able to use the built=in GPS device. If you already know where you are though, it's great for directions or the always-entertaining satellite imagery.
Google Local Mobile is a pretty flashy demo, but its usefulness and value is near zero.

Yes, it should be a fine replacement for Garmin Mobile. It will actually provide more functionality.
