Who cares

Nokia makes the ugliest phones on the market. Let them keep making GSM phones for all the Eurotrash.
I care, it totally sucks. Nokia made some of the best reception phones you could buy.
...
no, LG does.
...
Well, they make phones of which Americans can only dream of to all that Eurotrash. I'm talking about the N-series, E-series etc.

That's why the European market is always years ahead of the USA.

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Crap. I was really looking forward to seeing what the Nokia - Sanyo venture would bring. I guess the Nokia "branded" handsets might be OK - but it won't be the same. 😒 😒 😒
Considering I haven't seen very much good out of Pantech so far, I'm not expecting much from the new Nokia "branded" devices.
...
All that means is that they're going to concentrate on GSM/UMTS phones. Hopefully it will bring some better GSM handsets out
ARGH!
Now my choice of cdma phones becomes even MORE limited. I'd give my left arm for a toshiba or sonyericsson or nokia cdma EVDO phone launched here. Screw gsm IMHO, cingular cant get their crap working properly and artificially limits their phone...

I think this is one of the worst business decisions that Nokia could ever make in their history because this will hurt them long term if they don’t decide to enter into the CDMA market. Perhaps they decided to β€œpull out” of the joint venture b...

What about Sanyo?

I can't help but wonder what this news means for Sanyo's CDMA operations. From what I gathered, the Nokia-Sanyo partnership seemed to be of nearly equal benefit for both companies.

Nokia stood to gain better relations with Qualcomm as there was the potential for all of their CDMA handsets to be manufactured by Sanyo. They could also gain additional inroads to Sprint, which has never carried much in the way of Nokia phones.

Sanyo's financial woes within the CDMA division could be remedied by the additional outlets it would now have by manufacturing phones for Nokia. Because of Sanyo's exclusivity agreement with Sprint in the US, they're limited to one carrier (Sanyo's last non-Sprint handset in the US was the model 350 for Verizon Wirel...

Sprint would never purchase Sanyo, there would be no return on investment.

As for Sanyo, their boat has slowed down, but they can restructure without Nokia and are still looking at a profit (a small one) going into 03/07.
This was a very bad business decision by Nokia but it will not really affect Sanyo because Sanyo is very good when it comes to CDMA, but I am more puzzled at why Nokia decided to get out of the CDMA market. Granted they are in that market a bit, but t...

Not quite. I've still got my 3589i from Verizon. A great, basic phone that never let me down.
