Phone faster then network?

Wow, I can't wait to run out and buy a phone that is capable of fast download speeds that my network cant handle? Sign me up!

Oh, wait, the network CAN handle it, they just dont want to yet. Even better...
I think the faster speeds will be available in the next few months.

It doesn't make sense to "upgrade" then entire network if only a couple devices work so far. That would cost money, which is better spent upgrading the EDGE areas to the 3G spec...

I don't think its any worse than people byuing an 802.11g or even worse 802.11pre-n WiFi router for their internet connection which only runs at 1.5Mb. The highest speed home service I have ever seen is only 12Mb which, yeah, you might want an 802.11g...

So many chronic complainers....people complain that a network is faster but have limited devices for it, and then you have these people who complain because the devices are coming out but the network isn't turned up to that speed yet. Complain compla...

Speeds ONLY advertised @ 400-700kbps

I don't know what the deal is with this 1.8mbps stuff, and "soon" to be upgraded to 3.6mbps once more handsets are available.

On Cingular's website, they advertise data cards at speeds of 400-700kbps (speeds that are 10yrs old!!!!)

I see know where on Cingular's website advertised speeds of 1.8mbps? ! ? ! ? ! ?

If Cingular starts advertising 3.6mbps air cards, I'll jump on it, but I'm not interested in this theoretical crap, only average speeds, and REAL WORLD speeds!!!!

Theoretical, NOT good enough!!!
1.8mbps is the Theoretical speed. In order to get that, you need nobody else on the HSDPA tower and full signal.

Of course you're not going to tell people to expect 1.8mbps at all times. Verizon and Sprint do the same thing with their EV-DO netwo...

I'm not normally a Moto fan, but...

I'm impressed that this phone has essentially "4G" (UMTS). I never thought a RAZR would be one of the first to debut this data speed considering the standard V3 rocked GPRS. That's a massive leap.
The camera, memory card slot and a2dp bluetooth profile also make this an appealing phone to advanced cellular users.
Actually HSDPA 3.8 isn't considered 4G

So Much for Being Unique

"A Cingular spokesman tells us the company will increase the network's data speed once more devices capable of 3.6 Mbps are available." ~ What the heck kind of statement is that?? What happened to having a unique device that people will want to buy? Push the faster speed on the device as a selling point. OH I GET IT! More false advertisement and leading statements...that eventually you'll have to back-track on. Great marketing plan! You should all be FIRED!

Typo?

Hey Eric(s)/Rich,

In the motorola page of your CES 07 coverage you state that the V3xx is capable only of 1.8 Mbps HSDPA (https://www.phonescoop.com/articles/ces_2007 /index.php?p=mto) But on this article its at 3.6

Soo, which is it?
It is 3.6. I played with one the other day so I SHOULD KNOW.

No quad band

Wierd that it's only tri-band... first moto in a long time that hasn't been quad-band, a high end moto anyways.
There is only one person to thank for that. The Carrier. Another great idea from Cingular. I guess they're not interested in selling it to people who travel abroad, where it could actually perform at speeds it was designed for.
