Largest usable SD

Hi folks,

Anyone know what is the largest microSD card that can be used in the 8820 (AT&T)? I am thinking of buying an 8 GB one... But I had many devices in the past that can only handle 1 GB โ˜น๏ธ

Thanks in advance,
sn50
I THINK this can handle 2, MAYBE 4...not positive though
If the phone is SDHC compliant, then it can go up to 32GB..
I was just looking on the AT&T web site at this phone and it said you can add up to 2G.

BB 8820 WiFi Connectivity w/o data plan

Does anyone know how to get the Wifi on the 8820 to connect if you don't purchase the data plan. When I bought the phone AT&T failed to advise you needed the data plan to make the wifi work. They offered me a lowball adjustment that wouldn't cover 2 months of data plan. Thanks

Photo Timer?

Hi a friend of mine just got this phone and she was wondering if there was a timer option w/the camera? She has searched for it and hasn't been able to find it? Anyone know if it actually has it?
No, no photo timer.....because there is no camera on this phone...

Question: WiFi for Calls?

Anybody had any experience using the 8820 in hotspots for making/receiving voice calls? The sales guy in the AT&T store insists that the WiFi feature is all about being able to download web pages faster. As he put it, "Why would we be selling phones that let you BYPASS the voice network charges?"
This phone is supposed to have UMA capabilities-which means it would integrate seamlessly with a wifi connection for voice calls-AT&T has been a part of the UMA development team, but they sure don't advertise it.

try it- let us know if it works ๐Ÿ˜ณ

I have the T-Mobile 8320 Curve, which also has UMA, and yes indeed, it works over wi-fi. My sister lives out in the country with no T-Mo signal. I gave her my old wireless router, hooked it up and lo and behold, for the first time, I was able to recei...

Compared with 8320

How does this compare with the 8320? Is T-Mobile still expected to get this and if so when?

If one does not subscribe to HotSpot, will it still use WiFi for browsing?

Can it be used for WiFi Calls such as through Skype?

Since this is just a slight upgrade to the 8800 can the owners of this bad boy explain how good/bad the GPS and wi fi is? Cool.

BB 8820 on AT&T Part Deux...

I'm begging someone that works for AT&T to comment. Please. This is scandalous. RIM should sue AT&T.

Steve Jobs & Apple have the proverbial gun to their head, with their finger on the trigger, should AT&T do something as stupid as release a phone that will totally undermine the sales of the precious iPhone. The idiots that run AT&T should be embarassed.

Don't they realize that NO ONE is going to buy the thing as a phone now?

It's the APPLE iPod Touch. AT&T just lost a huge revenue stream. No one needs them now. They can buy the thing from Apple direct.

Fools. Apple schooled them badly......
Sure they will sell it, the monthly cost with a blackberry plan added to minutes is higher then an iphone plan.
...
BerryBerry, it was fun starting a new discussion huh? I dont think apple is worried or ticked off at at&t for this release, enterprise users still need email. ignorant.
...
It isn't AT&T's fault that Apple made an iTouch! I am a rep for AT&T.

BB 8820 on AT&T?

Anyone know the release date? I'm due for an upgrade now and don't want to waste it on the 8800.

I've heard speculation about this week. True??
should be out by the end of the month. thats what i hear
...
September 4th is the release date, already confirmed through our local corporate store. There do in the end of the week, bye bye 8800, hello 8820
...
It was released yesterday on AT&T's site.
I was in an AT&T corporate store yesterday and they said 2 or 3 weeks for the BlackBerry 8820 to hit the stores.

What is the big deal about 3G. I'm sure life is just fine right now without 3G on the Blackberry ๐Ÿคจ
3g would be nice but its not that important. my 8800 is just as fast as any other 3g phone

I believe this will be at T-Mobile at the end of Sept.

Whether or not it is the exact model but Tmobile will be launching a phone calling it theCurve in Sept with wiFi, Camera, Media player and all.
If I'm not mistaken the model will be 8320. Looks like the 8300 Curve only with WiFi. 8820 suppose to go to Cingular/AT&T.
...
I think this phone, or a variation of it (but this IS is a variation!) will hit T-Mobile, merely for the fact that it can access UMA, probably the first real nice one too ;)

Why does it have everything but a camera?

I am really interested in getting this...i guess sometime in Aug. Or early September, but the only sad thing is it does not have a camera. I am thinking that it has everything else except a main feature of many Phones. I guess BB has only came so far?? ๐Ÿ˜Ž
Its not can't, its won't, this is mainly a business device, in such areas, cameras are not welcomed.

The Curve which is mainly aimed at home business or personal use does have a camera.

Wifi (will the 8820 use wifi for voice calls and email?)

I suspect the wifi works for browsing the web. The question I have is will the wifi also be used for sending and receiving emails, but even more importantly phone calls?

I am currently using VerizonWireless. Their network is fine where I live. I am planning on switching to AT&T. A friend came by last night who is on AT&T and signal strength was very low on a relatively new phone and on the 8800.

If the 8820 will be using wifi for phone calls and email then I can switch to AT&T and get this phone even though coverage from the AT&T network isn't so great.

Thanks for all advice.
I have asked the same question on the other sites that claim to have information on "Blackberry" and as of yet NO useable answer, I don't think anyone knows.

this is BS

why does AT&T get nearly all of the hot blackberrys
It doenst make much sense that they mention UMA when Tmo is the only company doing it. They also own 6000 hotspots and have plans that include them.

What I dont get it - the article actually mentioned Tmobiles UMA, then goes on to say that the phon...

Simple, because they have more blackberry customers in the US than any other carrier.

You can have them. Until Blackberry puts video record on them, you can have them.
You know what... I'd rather they get it first... that way all of the bugs are worked out for the T-Mobile version... and once people find out it's for HotSpot@Home... everyone will either a) get it unlocked for TMO or b) just switch to TMO to use it. ...

No 3G

โ˜น๏ธ
That's exactly what I was thinking. They can add Wi-Fi but still no 3G/HSDPA? WTF??? โ˜น๏ธ
...
3G chips fall under all sorts of proprietary traps (see the Broadcom vs Qualcomm debacle), so they'd either have to very carefully license 3G technology (I'm not sure who they went with for the Euro 3G on the 8707), or they could develop their own.

I heard through my agent rep that when it lanches with T-mobile it will have Aws 1700 3g later this year.

Personally, I'd take wifi any day over 3G. It's much easier to add apps for wifi than 3g, and wifi doesn't cost nearly what it does for 3g data services.
