Sprint to Launch Baltimore WiMax Network In September
Personally think this might save the company
Being someone who lives between Baltimore and DC, I'm excited to hear this. I'm not the biggest fan of the iPhone (but am an Apple fan in general), but the iPhone really allowed people to start embracing data and the web on their phones.
If Sprint takes data speeds to the next level and the networks opens up so new devices can come on and access this network, I think Sprint could be in good shape.
Data really is something that's important to many, many more people than it was as of - a year ago?

I agree. What i believe is going to happen is Sprint is going to be seen as more than just a cell phone company but as as full fledged broadband /data provider.

You are very ignorant, Wimax is used in 100 countries. LTE is still in theory (laboratory) with no real world test with a projected launch date of 2012. By that time Wimax is projected to have over 30 million customers in the US alone.

Devices?
There's been a lot of talk about this wimax strategy for Sprint, but there's been almost no mention of devices.
The network is obviously useless without something to access it, so what will they be using? The rumored Nokia N810 with a WiMax chip added? A CDMA/WiMax pc card? Or a WiMax only card (like the Motorola pc card Clearwire sells)? Unless there's a phone that manufacturers have been hiding (unlikely), it'll be a while before there's any voice or data devices.
So what will customers be using? Anyone know? I'm really curious about this.

At the moment i'm just too lazy to look up specifics, but last november or so they had announced an internet tablet device that they were using to test WiMax. As far as phones, no idea yet.
