Verizon Wireless Now Offering Month-to-Month Plans
So is this full retail plan pricing?
If the point of the 2 year contract is to recover the phone subsidy, shouldn't the price plan be cheaper if there is no subsidy to recoup? I mean, if they give you $240 off the phone for a 2 yr contract, shouldn't the month-to-month be $20 less?

Secure Vs unsecure.....
I think people should realize that Verizon realizes the secure factor in CDMA technology. Lets say a GSM company does decide to do this. I would not want to shell out full retail for a brand new phone and if it gets stolen or lost someone can keep it and use it. With CDMA, my investment is protected better. Verizon knows this and I would not be surprised about the other CDMA companies doing this. If ATT and Tmo start doing this, I hope the subscribers realize potential return of their investment is very low.
I'm sorry, but I must call BS on that. CDMA phones can still be reflashed, even if it's suspended for non-payment or lost/stolen, and be used for Cricket or MetroPCS. Independent dealers won't care where the phone came from; they will still make money...

You fool...lol verizon's investment is better protected. Not yours...why pay $400 for a cdma phone and in 2 months it will be old news. With gsm if you get sick of your carrier or you want to use a foreign sim card at least you have choices. 🤣

The price will vary by store, but depending on the retailer you can get if from 400-600 I'm assuming. (Walmart will be near the top end of that I believe. They seem to be much higher in price than other alternatives for outright phone plans.)

Which makes sense, seeing as its postpay a customer still could rack up a big bill with downloads and premium sms.
All in all not a bad plan, it's a good step for their open network policy, and I've had families and businesses bring in their old used phones and get frustrated because they still have to sign a contract.

Sprint has been doing this for quite some time it's basic, buy a phone at full retail price without credits and rebates, thus you're not locked into a 1 to 2 year contract.
I think every company has done this forever... Sprint doesnt advertise it but it is an option. you can get a normal Sprint plan with normal features and a normal device without a commitment.

AT&T has always had 0, 1 and 2 year equipment pricing options available. They don't sell unlocked phones (and from what I hear, neither will Verizon under this agreement), but you can choose which equipment price works for you.
(Of course the best pricing and promotions are with the 2 year commitments, as with T-Mobile)

Third Party Apps?
Under this new month-to-month plan it states that customers will be able to use their own CDMA devices, will this mean more potential to third party applications down the road? As well all know now, every phone sold by Verizon has their Verizon software built right in, but say a customer comes over from Alltel and brings their phone with them, Verizon may not have a UI/software package for that model, right? So wouldn't the manufacturers software take its place?

GSM unlocked phones are pretty cheap without contracts.... CMDA phones are too expensive to buy without subsidies.
I can got get a verizon curve for $175 off craigslist and activate with no deal...id say thats a pretty fair price.

I've been month-to-month with Cingular/AT&T since October 30, 2005.
That maybe true and that's all fine and dandy, but here in Houston, most people here wouldn't know what the hell U.S. Cellular is so this is news to many markets that don't have that regional carrier...
