Article Doesn't Tell You

What the article didn't say is the the FCC also tacked on an additional 5 markets to the 100 markets that were already voluntarily given by Verizon. So Verizon must divest 105 Markets! They must also submit to more stringent E911 policies to be controlled at the individual county level, and there are other provisions regarding the Universal Service Fund.
They will divest then in 5 years they will have them back when they company that gets them goes belly up.

Verizon acquires Alltel - could this pave the way of an AT&T buyout of U.S. Celluar?

Yes, I know this sounds a bit crazy, however, Verizon is about to become the largest carrier again. I was wondering, could AT&T soon buy out U.S. Celluar?

While I know that U.S. Cellular is a CDMA carrier, they have announced plans to upgrade to LTE for 4G technology, which AT&T has announced prior to U.S. Celluar's announcement. I am sure that AT&T would keep the U.S. Cellular CDMA network up and running, although they will try and convert the existing customers to GSM/UMTS/LTE. U.S. Celluar's TDMA/AMPS network would probably be shut down, but hardly anyone uses those networks anymore. I think that U.S. Cellular and AT&T would be a good combination.

And before anyone says that Sprint should buy out U.S. Cellular, remember that S...

You are correct that Sprint has enough issues. Its one big buy out/merger pretty much killed that company.

I am inclined to think AT&T would not be interested in US Cellular. It does not seem like a good fit and Alltel was looking for a buyer for a...

Why would you like to know this? just curious.
So you are proposing that ATT takes over a network of a different technology, much in the same way Sprint took over Nextel.

hmm.... 🤨 🤨 🤨
while i like the thought of ATT trying such a manuever and having it succeed Just as well as Spr...

Question for Alltel Agents

What do you think will happen do you think you will become Verizon Agents. I work for a Verizon Agent and we have really not heard either way.
I would imagine that agents will have to reapply with Verizon.

Verizon is very picky about where they put their authorized dealers. They like to avoid saturation. So, if there is a VZW store, Circuit City, BJ's Wholesale Club and an agent or 2 alr...

divest spectrum????

What does it mean to "divest spectrum"?? Thanks for the help.
Essentially, in markets where the newly combined company would hold a virtual monopoly on spectrum (i.e. currently, Alltel and Verizon are the only providers), they must sell it to another company.
