Now that's a good thing...

I never understood why companies don't allow customers who always pay their bill on time to do this. What do they have to lose? Customers would be more likely to get more expensive phones if they only had to pay, say $30 a month.
I agree, but I am wondering how this will work for all of their customers, eg. prime 2 year, upgrades, and FlexPay accounts. I want to use my girlfriends account upgrade to get the new 8900 when it comes out, and it would really help to be able to pa...

I was a customer on Sprint back in 2000 when Sprint did this, it was over the life of the contract and I bought a $500.00 phone, after like 3 payments I decided I didnt want to pay anymore, so I stopped paying. I canceled service, and then 6 months la...

Alltel

Alltel would bill those $249.99 Startacs to a customer's account and split it over a 12 month period. It never failed... About six months into the billing, the customer would show up mad as heck wanting to know what this equipment charge for $22.50 is on their bill and cursing about how Alltel is trying to cheat them. One look at that Startac and be like, "Hmmmm...let's take a look at the first bill...Yep! You bill that Startac to your account or did you pay the $263 dollars it cost up front?" Silence... Yeah, get ready for those calls, T-Mo.
That's why there's only FOUR payments. One of which is made up front. Less time for the customer to 'forget' they bought whatever they bought.

It's a cool idea but...

...I think that this maybe an accident waiting to happen. It should only be offered secretly to already existing customers that have proven themselves. If they don't have the money to front for the phone, what will happen down the road? I just feel that this is toying with a can opener in a worm hunt.
IT was. They have had this for a while with existing customers on upgrades. I qualified back in November for an htc shadow but will not get it until March. But hey! Now the new shadow is out! YAY!
These are not sprint customers! 🤣
They actually prequalify the customers beforehand. The credit limit starts at $100 and goes up to $500. Therefore, if someone were a new or existing customer with not so hot credit and less than perfect tenure, they might not qualify for the program...
