Review: T-Mobile G2

I was trying to transfer files from my previous phone to the G2 and couldn't find how to send files via bluetooth. I was able to pair, connect, and receive, but not connect.

I'm an avid G1 user and Ive been waiting for months for this phone to come out and now that I see the features that it had on it I'm pretty disappointed..

No front facing/duel cameras?? FAIL!!
Video calling is one of the coolest features out there right now..

No 1Ghz processor? WHYYYYYYY?????
I realize the 800Mhz probably isn't that much different but why not just go the distance and get the 1Ghz??

Would have liked to have seen a little bit of a larger screen.. With phones like the Galaxy, HD2, and other larger screen phones I would have liked to have seen a little bit larger screen on this phone. 😕

Anyways these are my gripes. Lol.. Kinda sad, guess ill be waiting for a different phone that has it all..

If anyone has any info on how i can get 2.3 on mine, without getting a chopped up ROM, i would be interested in finding out when. Thanks in advance

I downloaded an album from amazon. After I downloaded the album I listen to it and I had to shut my phone off for a few minutes for I had to go into a building that required the phone to be turned off. once I turn my phone on the album is gone. Now this is the second time this happened. What gives? Do I call customer care or do I contact amazon?

is this phone international or able to made after rooting?

Like another person's post. This phone is going to be loaded with vanilla android. (unaltered and not watered down). So... t-mobile never officially got the nexus... we do get the nexus 2.

I really dont understand why this phone is named the G2... Wouldnt the "my touch" be the G2? how about the "my touch 3.5mm"?
or the "LE Fender my touch"? "my touch slide"?

They should have just named it the G5. That is an entire "G" ahead of sprints "4g".

It seems that the A-holes @ tmobile decided to make the bootloader on the G2 self aware.

What does that mean you ask? It means that while the G2 was successfully rooted just days after it's initial release, once you reboot the phone the bootloader checks to see if it has been rooted and if it has, it resets everything back to the way tmobile wants it. 😳 🤨

WTH? 👿 That is completely ridiculous. 😕 I haven't made up my mind on whether I want to root his thing yet but I should have the option to do so. My main reasons for rooting would be the Wifi hotspot ability, installing to the SD card (let's face it 1.5 GB of internal storage isn't very much), full system back up to SD card, Super user control. etc

Whats your fastest speed test on the g2?

my chargers, screen protectors, and extended battery came in today all from different companys and listed as works on the tmobile g2. Sure enough everything came in and is for the mytouch not the g2 so when ordered stuff make sure the seller knows the difference between the phones

I'm just wondering what kind of speeds people are seeing with this phone. I was told it maxes out at 14mbit but i was in philly today and did a few speed test and was getting 25 mbit down and a little over 5 mbit up . Im sure these4 speeds wont be as good once more people get 3.5 g phones but wow im really amazed. Most of my friends cant get them speeds on a home connection

I'm aware of the processor's actual speed and how solid it is, the fast boot up, blah, blah, blah.
I had the G1 and now have the N1. I like having my phone clean of the the add on UIs, we get the updates first (well except for the upcoming one from what I understand, big red and moto stole it from us!)
I was (add your favorite sexual insinuation here) when I heard of this phone. And was, until I got to play w/a friends Droid X. The thing that killed my high was the screen size... I had always hoped size didn't matter, but apparently I was mistaken. I guess I'll have to wait on the G3 now or maybe the NexusTwo if google decides to carry out the original plan... 😢

I was happy to hear about this phone until checking out the specs. It would be nice if it had a stronger processor, PC synch, data tethering, UMA, and Java (JME2). Basically, wished it was a smartphone like the HTC HD2, but with Android instead of Windows Mobile. Is it 4G-ready? ☹️

Is anyone els haveing a problem like mine. When i hold the phone I loose signal if inside my house. My g1 gets great signal in my house but the g2 looses service when i hold it but if i sit it on my desk it works fine. If htc trying to copy apple? I love the phone its everything i wanted and more and the metal case is nice but im wondering if the case is whats causeing the reception problems.

Hello, I already have mine pre-ordered and it is on the way. I currently have a Nexus One and enjoy the ability to be a hotspot for my laptop. I surf all day at work. I understand that this feature will be disabled on my G2 even though it has "vanilla" froyo on it. I have three question for anyone that can help.

1. If I root it, will this make the tethering and hotspot work like it does on the Nexus One and if I root it will I be able to use any sim card from any carrier?

2. If I root it, will any future updates (via over the air, like bug fixes and os upgrades) be able to be downloaded by my phone and how will this effect my phone?

3. Lastly, where can I go online to do like the easy root type of thingy, like where you plug your ph...

To be honest, the spec sheet on this phone isn't all that impressive. especially when you do a side by side comparison with some of the competition. The reason I'm getting this phone?... VANILLA ANDROID! This is going to be google's new nexus. It will get all the updates first. I am coming off the cliq, cliq xt, behold 2, mytouch, and mytouch slide. I almost forgot that updates existed. It will be nice to be invited to the party again. 🙂

looking at the specs that are released on this phone so far the battery life appears to suck major. I hope this is a mistake, that could be a major drawback to getting this phone. I know there are apps that help you extend your battery life but just look at how the G2 specs stack up next to its 4 competitors.

I love the fact that it is vanilla android 2.2 and that it has a physical keyboard which is a big plus but that battery life may not make it a buy for me. ☹️

I actually wrote htc an email requesting the make a g2 2 months ago. lol. Ive had the white g1 for 2 years and haven't moved because of the keyboard color and well love tmobile. But this phone is definitely a must. Thank you so much htc. Another satisfied happy customer. But on another note how can the eris be wider and longer than the Droid 2 And the g2 but still weigh less than both?
