Why release such devices -- there are already pleanty

Whats the point of releasing 'new' entry level phones. Seriously, why should companies funnel millions of dollars into research and development into entry level devices[especially in a global recession]. Why don't they just keep producing the same models --- 1608, 1208, 2630, 1661, 6030 ...etc . The target customers are those that are a)financially constrained b)need only basic features. The cost of releasing millions of the same units has to go down very quickly if they don't change them yearly. Also, I keep hearing how these companies are going 'green' by reducing the packaging materials and being 'eco friendly'. I am personally not a tree hugger and generally keep away from those subspecies, but I would agree with them in that most of th...
