Grow up AT&T

A few people have said this, I just felt like making into a new thread.

Companies have been attacking other companies for years. Auto industry, computers, fast food, even video game consoles! Why is AT&T any different? AT&T indirectly attacking Verizon with their "more bars in more places", Verizon is just taking a more direct route.

I will admit I do not know all of the facts, other then Verizon pulled the AT&T 3g map from their site. I know in my area (midwest), Verizon greatly out performers AT&T. But I feel like AT&T thinks they are "above" other companies. Don't sue Verizon, just make your own ads.
the only reason why AT&T is throwing such a huge fit is because they can't compete so they are trying to get rid of Verizon since they are above them, and of course they are a huge threat. Thats all. Just a bunch of grown ups throwing a temper tantrum...

Right from Verizon's Website:

This is taken from:

http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/mobilebroadband/? ... »

"When in Mobile Broadband markets that do not yet have EV-DO Rev. A, you can expect download speeds of 400 to 700 Kbps and upload speeds of 60- to 80 Kbps."

Then, when you mouse over the various states in their "Broadband Coverage" listings, you see a VERY similar outcropping of cities that are covered with EVDO Rev A that are on AT&T's 3G coverage map.

400 Kbps is what an average user on EDGE will expect. This is the reason for the lawsuit... it has nothing to do with AT&T whining, it has everything to do with factual numbers.
Hmm. you need to check your technology facts on this one bud. EDGE has a peak speed of about 386 Kbps. So, how can you say that it 'averages" over 400 Kbps? It really averages about 144 - 225 Kbps. GPRS was the first data moving technology for GSM, E...

Since no one else will say it....

I guess I'll have to say it or at least bring it up. I'm not a coverage expert but I do pay enough attention to this stuff to know that while AT&T's network 3g OR NOT 3G in certain areas , there is NO WAY that Verizon has all of that area of the Unite States map that is shaded in red COVERED with their VOICE signal let alone 3G. No offense to anyone. I'm not a "fan boy", I don't use AT&T for wireless service. It just seems like no one EVER questions the accuracy of Verizon and their accuracy that is depicted on THEIR "coverage map". The misfit commercial IS FUNNY though!
Yeah well, there are a whole lot of people out there that are DRUNK on Verizon kool-aid!!! So no everyone is as honest as you are.

Verizon's entire native network is EVDO (3g) and well over 90% of it is EVDO Rev A.

Verizon is scared of AT&T, here's how I know...

First, Verizon/Android launches the "iDont" campaign. Second Verizon launches the "There's a Map for That" campaign. Third, they raise the ETF on Premium (PDA) devices to $350.

Here is what consumers should take away from this. AT&T is kicking Verizon's butt with iPhone and everyone knows this. Verizon hasn't been losing customers but they haven't been setting the world on fire adding them either the way AT&T has. Verizon's churn is up YOY (year over year) and AT&T'S down.

All of these advertising or slander campaigns (depending on how you look at it), are all intended to stop Verizon's bleeding. AT&T'S 3G reaches 75% of the US population and their data coverage covers 97% of the population. AT&T's 3G is twice as fast as Verizon. AT&T ...

AT&T Demands Verizon Pull 'Map for That' & 'Misfit' Commercials

Covering major cities with millions of people is different that covering the nation as a whole. Most people do travel out of their hometown and expect things to work properly. There is no false advertisement at all. The maps are pulled by a 3rd party from actual data provided from the carrier directly. They also need to realize that advertising the fact is far from when they were advertising they had the most coverage PRIOR to their acquisition of AT&T when they were still known as Cingular. Verizon was #1 at that point. Even the 3rd party company that gave them the data got fined because of the false advertisements.

You don't see Microsoft suing Mac for the ads... they just counteract them.

This one's directed at "BKS3"

And I target him because he deals in non-facts:

"Verizon is "defending steep losses" with its anti-AT&T, anti-iPhone commercials: false. Verizon added 1.2 million net customers in the most recently reported quarter, excluding acquisitions."

I love the fact that I got 5x (2500kbps/500kbps) the speed on my iPhone vs the Droid in NC side by side while a rep was standing there. Coverage outside of where you live doesn't matter if it sucks where you live.

i think att should get a new tampon and quit bitching.
That article uses theoretical speeds, and it's been a bit since I read it, but didn't they also claim that Verizon wasn't showing their actual 3g map (which not even att is contesting)

What should Verizons respnse be?

"Contrary to the image presented in the Verizon ads, our wireless network is pervasive. It covers over 300 million people, or 97% of the U.S. population. Our 3G network covers approximately 233 million people, or 75% of the U.S. population." Verizon has yet to respond.

I assume their response would be that their "3G" network covers over 90% of the pop. If I can get EVDO or 3G where I live from Verizon, I assume it must be almost everywhere.

Our 3G network covers approximately 233 million people, or 75% of the U.S. population

As an AT&T customer I find this very hard to believe. Even their own map does not support this.http://www.wireless.att.com/coverageview er/#?type=voice&3g=t&lat=43.281421863293644&l on=-97.91146406250002&sci=1

Look more like 25% to me.
Maybe they mean they cover 75% of their customers with 3G???

No, its really simple at&t covers areas which are highly populated not actual coverage wise. Like south Florida, NY, Souther Cal, Most of the east coast etc... So since they only cover those areas they can cover almost the entire US populous.
Remember, the U.S. population is not spread out evenly across the continent. People cluster near large cities and along the Atlantic/Pacific coasts. AT&T's 3G network covers 75% of the population, but that doesn't mean it covers 75% of the land area o...

Verizon 3g?

A 3g network that won't do voice and data simultaneously shouldn't even be called 3g.
Let's say that I agree with that assertion... How is it going to affect the real world where it IS considered 3G? I'm sure if the 3G forum had said such a thing Verizon and Sprint would have gone with different standards. However...they did not.

Why not?

ATT, why not make a rebuttal commercial showing you coverage maps and that you do get voice service in most of the US. VZ's commericals are not misleading. They clearly state 3g coverage and displaying their advantage. Its time for ATT to step up its game. Its marketing has been abysmal and they have been playing follow the leader with VZ for too long. Why not create your own witty and cunning marketing plan, make up your own price plans, and beef up your coverage to reflect being a top tier carrier. The way its looking, ATT is going to have a tough time after the iPhone exclusivity is gone. They might have to go through a period of decline like Sprint did before they get the point.

Verizon's commercials ARE misleading because they show someone with an AT&T device unable to get online at all. You don't need 3G to get online. That's false advertising.
Just did a little research and it looks like VZ is passing their 1x off as 3g. Technically it can qualify for 3G if the data speeds are above 144kit/s but everybody considers this to be 2.5G or 2.75G. Looks like ATT has a real bone to pick with them...

Vote with your feet and your wallet. No one is forcing you to buy an advanced device or any device from Verizon for that matter. If you do not like a corporation's policies then do not give it your business. It is as simple as that.

Reality bites huh?

I guess the iphone can be a double edged sword. At&t is the only carrier to I know to get so much publicity for their network 'shortcomings'. If you have to sell your services based on hype then that says something about the substantive value of it. The comical Verizon ads are mocking At&t's seriously lame advertising. I think they should just focus their effort on improving their network....

Just do a speed test

If AT&T is so upset that the map is misleading, let's put an iPhone and an Android phone to a speed test.

Let's test it in say Middle America where Verizon has 3G coverage and AT&T has their stellar Edge coverage.

Better yet, why don't we just test a crappy phone with web access like the Voyager and put it against AT&T's wunderphone... see which loads webpages faster.

IDEA: for Verizons next commercial. "Okay, AT&T covers 97% of the population with Edge...let's do a speed test"

They wouldn't be lying either.

It'll be thrown out of court...

The suit bares no merit. It's just silly and a waste of time and money on AT&T's part. They should accept the truth and improve their 3G footprint already. It's called competition. I don't think the Verizon commercials are hurting their sales anyway. iPhones continue to sell like crazy so I don't why they're even trying to start **** with Verizon.

Nov 12, 2009, 5:57 PM

Sorry AT&T

I see nothing wrong with the commercials, the are clearly showing AT&T's 3G Coverage. Even during the commercial it says "comparison based on square miles covered with 3G. Voice and Data services available outside 3G coverage area". It's not Verizon's job to show the other map, that what research is for. Customer can look it up for themselves, that's why AT&T Wireless has a website,

So please tell me, where is verizon saying AT&T doesn't have voice and data services. The "there's a map for the commercials are not about Voice and Data, so why would Verizon want to talk about it. The commercials are about 3G Coverage only.

AT&T will loose this, because they have a childish claim. That has no support.

Haha look at AT&T, demanding things now. Thats what they get for lying to all their good paying customers shame! Verizon is no better, they'd have you think the whole damn country is painted red.
Force Verizon and AT&T to divest half of their markets and create two new cellular carriers to ensure competition!

I, the Cellular Jesus, have thus commanded this!
