The Us is only a small fraction of the global phone market. I dont know about sony, but Samsung and Nokia are two of the largest international phone companies right now. Nokia dwarfs pretty much everyone else

Just stick with HDMI/mini HDMI since every TV launched in the last 5 years or more has at leat one HDMI imput as well as high end laptops.
