Competion Hard to Do in US
I think the concept was good to sell the phone directly to consumers and then you choose a carrier. However, with the US not having universally compatible phones with AT&T on one frequency, T-Mobile on another, and then you have this CDMA thing from Verizon/Sprint that it was hard to get competition in the mix. We I think we the consumers would like is to be able to use the cellular companies as "dump pipes" like is more the case with home broadband where you use whatever device you want. It will happen to the US, but not yet.
Another interesting possibility is if Google could offer phone service using cheaper data only and no contract plans, thou not all carriers offer these type of plans.
