So let me get this straight, for the same price as getting 5GB on a 3G network, I get 5GB on a 4G network that operates on a much smaller footprint and offers about the same speed initially as AT&T and T-Mobile's 3G Network.

This makes me laugh, because this last 3 weeks have been comical. All these people complaining about sprint charging only $10 dollars for unlimited 3g/4g for handsets when Verizon isn't even going to offer unlimited 4g.

Exactly, from what I've personally seen, a lot of Verizon customers who are thinking about switching to Sprint were complaining as well.

Here's an interesting thought, All of the major cell phone carriers turning into HUGE wireless broadband companies with all of their phones using only VOIP.
The cost of internet on the handsets may go up, but the cost of voice and text may be reduced to almost nothing but a symbolic cost. All calling goes unlimited because of VOIP and the competitive edge between companies is no longer how many signal bars you have, but how fast the speed of the network is.
High international calling charges would be a thing of the past, since it will be 100% VOIP and minutes will be unlimited.
Wi-Fi will supplement any lack of tower coverage for all phones.
I don't know, just a thought.

It'll be longer than 2012, but your right, it will be called voice over LTE.

But would minutes really be unlimited? With voice over IP, your voice would be measured as data, and with tiered pricing, the more data you use the more you would pay, so you wouldn't have unlimited voice unless you had unlimited data.

Wimax, at the frequency it is at, will only really be effective in densly populated areas. Tmobile doesn't have the available spectrum to really expand their network.

Although LTE is suppose to offer a cheaper and more efficient way of transfering data, I can see where Verizon (and eventually AT&T) is coming from with this.
Verizon is prepping themselves for a culture that is beyond "give me a basic phone or free phone" and more towards using smartphones and a lot more data. I think it's smart of them to introduce tiered plans now instead of thinking unlimited is the way to go and then having to go back on that.
And honestly, I do wish more companies offered this. Right now, I pay $30 a month for an iPhone data plan that I barely use because I am always on wifi. So I may go the entire month and use less than 300MB. It would be great to pay $5 or $10 for every GB used instead of giving "unlimited" d...

If every carrier offered data at $10/GB that's just 1 penny a MB. Then maybe they can offer quality data on prepaid and people can think about how they use their phones.
Then no one is forced into a $30/month plan and big bandwidth users will pay according to their usage. Fair pricing is all I want.
