I remember asking why the iPad was never mentioned the day it was announced, or ever for that matter and the response was "it isn't a phone, we cover phones on Phonescoop"

Since this device makes video calls, I think that qualifies it as a phone to some extent.
We did too cover the iPad...but only because it has a cellular radio in it. I don't know who told you we didn't.
