People seem to have short memories - instant replay of Treo and Windows Mobile. After Palm dumped their OS for WM, in a few years they were gone (bought up...). And this obviously didn't help Microsoft either as WM went into oblivion as well.

...this will benefit Windows7 more than it will benefit Nokia.
Nokia still has a strong presence in Eastern Countries but has been losing ground to Android and ios devices.
Windows on the other hand, will be able to substantially increase their global footprint through this move while Nokia is still viable. Good move for Microsoft. I just hope Nokia is not putting all the eggs in one basket.

At first when I saw this, I thought OMFG, but, actually it makes sense. Well except for the Meego thing.
Couldn't agree more. Nokia is still crazy popular over seas. Putting a Windows Phone 7 in the place of Symbian is going to work so well for Microsoft. Although I am surprised Nokia didn't jump on the Android bandwagon...kind of glad they didn't...
