Start up sound
Is there any way to disable to start up "Droid" sound on the phone? I knew there was on the original Droid but can't seem to find it on the new one.
Also, I know there was a update pushed on the original that removed the ability to have "vibrate only" as a feature between totally silent and having the ringer sound be on. Is there any way to reinstate that or is that gone forever? I dealt with it not being there on the old one but wish I still had that ability.
Thanks!
i can't speak to the droid sound, although mine hasn't rebooted in a few days. 😈
My solution to the no vibrate mode (it exists, there's just no easy way to access it; the D3 is no different) is to get Beautiful Widgets. Included in that s...

Battery Life is Unacceptable
First of all, I love the features of this phone. Unfortunately, the battery life negates any advantages of this otherwise awesome phone. I thought I had the problem solved by turning off the data connection until I needed it. That seemed to work for a couple of days, but now it's back to its normal battery drain. I've tried every possible solution I could find and nothing works. I have everything turned off or turned down and still the battery is averaging 10-20% drop per hour with NO USE. No calls, no texts, nothing. I just unlock the phone, check the battery hourly, and relock. Something is draining the battery and I hope Verizon will hear this and hopefully correct it. I wouldn't have bought this phone if I had known it wouldn't hold...

have you turned off global roaming? For me, with global roaming off, I can get close to 18 hours of moderate use, more than 12 of average use, and close to 8 of pretty heavy data use.

Wrong info on CPU
Just to note you said Droid 3 was a dual core snapdragon CPU. That is not correct it uses a dual-core TI OMAP 4430. Big difference from dual core snapdragon.

D3 or iPhone 4??
I was almost sure I was going to get the iphone 4....I looked and looked at them and after having the original droid for almost 2 years, i have made a decision.
I wanted the iPhone because it simply works. when you press the messaging icon, it brings up the messaging app quickly, where my OG droid takes a few seconds to think. The camera on my droid sucks, it locks the phone up constantly....so, after all that, you would think i would jump off android and go with ios, but you would be wrong.
I ordered my D3 today and it will be here monday. I will update this thread with thoughts on the device when i get it. hopefully it works as well as or better than an iphone.
Android is not a very good operating system for people who think that ios "just works" Those people will, almost inevitably, find something to complain about with android.
Because of the open-source development model, and low (as in nil) develop...

not much reaction to this phone
I sure don't see much comment about this phone. Seems like a lot of people are holding out. Which costs Verizon more money, selling phones cheaply every two years, or us keeping our phones longer and not buying new ones. This is the longest I have ever kept a phone.
Probably becuase this really isnt a *new* device. Sure, it is a phone that has a keyboard and the way it looks exactly and or works may be *new*, but this device is NOT a new idea, it does not have any new features, and it can't do anything that any ...

Global, which is what I want. D3 or Incredible 2
I was almost set on the Droid Incredible 2 which seems like a great phone, but once I realized the D3 was global plus dual processor and HDMI out, I think I'm hooked. My original Droid contract ends next week, I don't need LTE and the D3 seems like a perfect upgrade.
I didn't really need the keyboard, but you never know.
One other thing... seems the Droid 3 has some accessories the others don't have. A car dock that is make for it, as opposed to a universal dock. And it has the media dock which would be great on my nightstand.
Yeah, I think I'll make the jump.
