Is 64GB even necesary?

As far as a mobile phone device goes, isn't that just a tad bit.. overkill? for my own usage, an 8GB ipod is already too much because all i do is skip songs it feels like. Movies? forget about it on a phone. Somebody needs to work on improving battery performance first.
It is necessary, for several reasons.

You obviously know about the price difference between an 8 GB, 32GB and 64 GB iPod. Well guess what? Now you can buy any device that supports SDXC and pop that 64 gig card in there. No need to buy ipods anymor...

Support is questionable

So far I know only Android 3.1 or higher supports FAT64, so most of Android 2.2 or even 2.3 will have problem with it.
On computer side, however, as long as the OS supports FAT64 and SDHC, it will work for sure.
Isn't the FAT file system made by Microsoft?
