This is nothing new, doesnt effect phones, just mobile hotspots, cards, and netbooks. Other carriers have the same deal at 5GB and so on.
The big deal is that Sprint is changing the plan you signed up for. Thus it is a materially adverse change to the contract. They cant uphold the contract if you dont agree to it. Limiting data in a plan you signed up for is a change of the agreement. ...

Just a matter of time, this WILL happen with Sprint Smartphones...
I look for Sprint to change Boost Mobile's data soon with the upcoming Virgin 2.5GB 3G Cap (then throttled) going into effect on January 1st, 2012. Then at Sprint direct, to appease new Iphone customers for awhile, they will keep it at unlimited. Wait until ATT gets TMO & eliminates a competitor & they have picked up a bunch of Iphone customers & they will change it for smartphone customers too. I have watched everyone closely regarding data for years & I would bet that 2013 will not see unlimited data offered any longer by Sprint. They may offer a larger data allotment than ATT & VZW to differentiate themselves but "unlimited data" will be gone soon. Any carrier or MVNO (like Straight Talk that will say they are unlimited will be just flat ...

I should add though before somebody calls me out on this that if you have it now, you will almost certainly be able to keep it, hopefully? I guess though this isn't the case with Sprint customers this article. Sprint would be at the height of stupidit...

I understand and support the move...
if it helps Sprint manaage its costs...however not grandfathering anyone in is a BAD move that will result in a lot of churn to other carriers. The only benefit of staying with Sprint over say Verizon is the unlimited 4G. Now when you take that away from me, LTE looks even more superior to WiMax than it already is.

Sprint has plenty of spectrum (as does Verizon) to offer unlimited. They want to find new ways of generating revenue. It has nothing to do with spectrum.
