Over the next few weeks, metroPCS will introduce an innovative process that enables CDMA devices from competitive networks to be re-flashed for use on it's wireless network. The process, branded “Metro Flashâ€Â, is powered by Houdini, a 3rd party software company. As you can imagine, Metro Flash will have an impact on metroPCS collective business, and has the potential to be an industry “game-changer.†let me know what you think

how can you validate the legitimacy of this info?, if this is true then a lot of people can move over to metro-pcs without having to buy a new phone.
...
well I got my own sources you just got to wait and see, and the point is metroPCS phones are a lil too much so thats why they want people to bring their phones and flash it to metro PCS and get charge a lil amount of money.
...
this is already occurring in the Sacramento market, so it is confirmed. the official company announcement is forethcoming.
...
would we do this at the store ?
what phones are able to do this ?
...
I just went to my local corporate store and they said they are able to flash most CDMA phones(except for smart phones). I have heard they charge $35 activation but the guy I talked to at the store told me $33.36. He said they can do it in the same day and you can keep your same account and phone number if you want.
...
where do you live????
Have you try it already?? give us a feed back when you flash a phone, what type of phone and how does it work once already flashed.
Anybody else know about this?
...
I have not tried it yet, I am buying a used helio ocean tomorrow and I am going to and flash it at the store along with a virgin mobile phone I had laying around the house. Then go to the family plan and see how it works out. I will update you guys tomorrow on how it all worked out.
...
I just checked 2 stores in my area. You are able to "flash" certain phones. Unfortunately, even though the phone is flashed, you only be able to use unlimited text, voice mail, and voice calls. All other features are deactivated, such as emails, instant messenger, web, and any other Metro features. I was going to get a LG Voyager, went to get the phone and have it flashed, they let me know right then that it would be very limited. According, to the rep they said that it could just be temporary. Meaning, in the future of using the Metro Flash service, all features will be available. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
...
Well it's been over 3yrs my friend and they still haven't fixed that "temporary" problem; at least not to my knowledge.

The person you're replying too hasn't posted here since 2008 🙄

I called my local metro location and they flat out told me know only metro phones and outright IGNORED any mention of the metro pcs announcement about flashing other phones and simply repeated you can only use metro pcs phones.
comments? (I am in the philly area) who do I call to find out about this? I have an old sanyo 6200 I would love to flash over.

How Many Dealers have been bullied by their Metro Pcs Reps for What ever Reason, Or How many Metro Pcs Authorized Dealers Have Been Played on Location they wanted to open, and the location the rep was notified about was all of a sudden an interest of many other dealers.
I m just writing this to rant about the way the Metro Pcs Reps are Treating their dealers and its Such a Cult.
The Managers and Reps in a Few Markets that i am familiar with are not running the dealer base fairly.
Metro Pcs the Company is a very good concept but the area Reps who work for the company need a lot of improvement. They need to Re Read the Metro Pcs Code of Ethics and Follow it.

woopee got any info on metro flash or do you just spam any threads with replies?
...
😳
I can't wait 'til this hits Atlanta!!! Cuz the phones here suck!!! I have a brick of crap Kyocera Strobe and my boyfriend has a piece of crap Razor and both of us are refusing to buy another piece of Metro crap until Metro gets their acts together!
...
where can you get internet and mms unlimited for $45? even new sprint still charged same things we get for $100 !
...
I agree about the low cost for unlimited features -- MetroPCS is a great deal! Metro doesn't have an act to get together, they are actually switching from a low-end network to a higher-end network. U can't start off by offering the Universe. I know my first car was NOT a BMW or Benz.
...
You can find more info on which phones can be flashed and locations in your area at: http://www.metropcs.com/metroflash/Default.as px
Sorry no smartphones being flashed at this time.

hello all
just wondering if the phones from other carriers will be compatible with travel talk roaming when flashed
especially the lg vx8300 sanyo scp3200,scp7xxx series and katana series
thanks in advance for any help

When flashing a phone to Metro PCS or any other local carrier, programming is obviosly reset, which resets the PRL to zeros, and is set to work on the local carrier's (Metro PCS) network only. If the phone manages to roam, the phone will probably drop the majority of it's calls.
...
Yean thanks for bringing up a good point but i was also wondering if *228 will work on a sprint phone because that is how metros native phones update their prls for roaming also will texting work on metros home network?
thanks
...
YeanJun 29, 2008, 7:00 PM
Don't believe the OTA PRL's should work on Sprint or any other J2ME enabled phones. Text may work (not always), but voice should definitely work. For sure, MMS, web browsing shouldn't work.
...
so does that mean i can not use text or web on a flashed phone ?
...
YeanJun 29, 2008, 9:57 PM
Flashed phones should only enable voice and text only. I've seen some older flashed phones, where text didn't work.
...
i have successfully flashed 2 razr2 v9m's to metro voice, text, web, mms, and java all work so its work the effort to flash and then enjoy a phone that metro pcs doesnt have

Metro PCS is BREW supported, how is this possible for MMS and web to work?
...
YeanJun 30, 2008, 10:03 AM
What branded phone (carrier) did you have the flashed L0GiC4L 3ViL.

hello me again
i have decided on the sanyo scp 8400 for me and a pink katana scp 6600 for my wife anyone have any experience with sanyo products? please share and any one else have experience with sprint phone flashing? thanks
...
YeanJun 30, 2008, 7:35 PM
Howdy texmarvin. Well, partner; Metro PCS's platform, on their handsets, are BREW supported; and Sprint, is J2ME (Java Micro Edition). Therefore, ANY Sprint or J2ME enabled handset, shouldn't allow MMS, WAP browsing, or any other Java enabled apps., to work on Metro PCS's network. The flash should only allow voice and text. You can call to a Metro PCD store, and I'm positive they'll tell you the same thing.
...
Okay... so if the Verizon Voyager is "get it now" capable, then shouldn't it also be compatible with @metro, at least?
I ask this because...
About 3 to 4 weeks ago, my Slvr L7c suddenly lost its programming... it was weird and I did a master reset and all was well. However, a friend's L7 did the same thing twice in that period. I thought the phones had reacted to a software update from Metro, 'cause a clerk mentioned that it was happening to several customers. Anyway, during that time, on both phones, the icons changed and "get it now" magically appeared in the menu. When I chose that option, it took me to @metro. Wouldn't that indicate that the phone is BREW compatible? Just a side note.
Anyway, there must be some way to manual...

first it was sprint branded , then flashed to alltel, then flashed to generic software then applied a little know how and everything worked

Still doesn't change the platform, just the software.

does anyone know where to get s phone flashed in miami ? i have called many places and i havn't found a place yet .
...
You should go to a Metropcs service center in Miami to get your phone flashed. Since this is a new service, most authorized dealers would not offer this service yet. Plus, only a few staff members in the service centers will be trained to flash phones.
...
yes there is a store on 11854 biscayne blvd they do flashes there

i think, for normal people metro is the best answer to wireless service, i work for ATT and i would NEVER have a att phone, metro is takein over slowly
