Can I transfer to another carrier and still keep my number?

Thinking of going to Virgin. Called the IT department at Metro, one person said yes, another person said no.

Yeah, you can keep your number, just give the carrier you're going to your account number associated with your cell phone number and any social/PIN number. If you're porting from Metro you'll need your PIN number.
