do phones make a difference?
Hi all,
I posted this in "general" and was advised to try over here.
I live in out in the country and have been with T-Mobile for a few years. I had a Samsung E105. Service is good, and at least I can talk inside my house. I recently upgraded my phone to a Nokia 6133 because the sales rep said it would be a much better phone reception wise. Well I got it home and I can't get any bars in my house, and sometimes even when I go outside, I still can't get any. I returned the phone and asked if I stayed with Samsung if I would be more likely to get decent reception. He said not necessarily.
I'm confused. I can see how switching carriers would have an effect, but why would the phone? Why does my old phone work better than a brand new one? They ...

It actually can make a difference believe it or not. I guess the different manufacturers use different radios and specs or whatnot.
I know with Verizon, Motorola phones can't be beat for reception. Some LG's are pretty close behind. I've also heard in the past that Nokia has great reception. I don't carry any Nokia's so I'm not sure. Samsungs on Verizon are at the very bottom of the list. If you're in a marginal area you don't want a Samsung, you want a Motorola on Verizon. 🙂

I've owned 2 Samsung phones (a650 & a930), and I've had much better reception with Samsung than I have with Motorola. My first Motorola was the 120c, and was the worst phone for reception. I recently went back to Motorola and got the W755. For fringe areas, it does hold calls a bit better than the 120c did, but I still get breakups in fringe areas. My Samsung phones worked a lot better in fringe areas on Verizon. My sister's first Samsung, the a850 was known for reception problems, as it was bad on reception with USCC & Alltel as well. Her current Samsung, the Juke (u470) does work a lot better. I wish I had bought the u550 instead of the Motorola W755. When I travel to fringe areas, such as North Judson Indiana, or even Demotte Indi...

Do you happen to know anyone that lives near you that has VZW? See if they can get service in your home and stay with that type of manufacturer. I do agree that the type of phone does make a difference but I think that the area also makes a difference. I've heard of people having problems with new phones they buy as far as reception, but its different make/models. Also keep in mind of VZWs 30 day worry free guarantee. You can exchange your phone within the 30 days once to find the one that best fits your needs. Good luck
