Knack or Coupe? Which is best for an elderly parent?
My mother is on the VZW family share plan and calls me frequently but sometimes she really wants my brother. I think it's because she can't see the keys or the display well enough. I noticed that VZW is marketing two different phones to senior citizens, the Samsung Knack and the UTStarcom Coupe. Mom doesn't use any features other than voice calls. No surfing, e-mail, video, text messages, etc. Any ideas about which would be the best option?

I would say the Knack. It's newer and seems like a nice phone.... sold several of them. The Coupe was just... uggg...

I recently got my mom a Jitterbug. I can honestly say that for an elderly person, the Jitterbug is awesome. It has a dial tone, a big display with big numbers, ultra-simple to use, and LIVE 24 hour operator assistance. Everything about the phone, the service and the plan was very well thought out and taylored to elderly or technology challenged people. Oh, and once you buy the phone there is no contract. It's as little as (I think) $12 or so a month. It's worth a look.

Seriously, I like this phone so much that I found two for sale and bought them for spares in case mine dies. First one I had ate itself.
With Verizon, all I had to do was register each phone (activate) at no charge. Easy to do:
1. Call Verizon
2. Turn off the current phone
3. Give them the EIN (they check for stolen)
4. Power on the new phone
5. Dial *228 and choose option 1.
Phone will be activated and will reboot and voila! un nouveau téléphone.
I went through that procedure three times (new phone 1, new phone 2 and old phone (back in service). Then I we...

The Knack is still available, has a charging stand and is still a good phone for folks that just want a phone and not a Captain Kirk pocket computer. I came on this thread by accident. How about you? By doing a google search to find out how to make the auto-retry function work, since Samsung didn't put it in the UG. One thing that didn't occur to me was that me liking a phone made me a pusher.
Used to run into folks that were a-holes on AOL, but you could click ignore and they went back under their rock.
I made the mistake of clicking notify on new replies.

There is a very real chance that the person in question is
1.) No longer looking at these phones wondering which to buy
2.) No longer looking at these forums waiting for a response to the thread
But you DID however bump a fairly useless topic (both of these phones are EOL and hard to get unless you order online) praising the values of a phone that fits a very niche market. There are more current phones that accomplish the same tasks as the Knack that are newer, have more technological options and are still very easy to find.
