Ready to Upgrade....Your Thoughts?
Ive been eligible to upgrade my phone (Droid X) for a few months now. I am so ready to get rid of this phone, Ive had so much trouble with it lately and dont know how much longer I can live with it. I am contemplating about purchasing the IPhone 4S or should I wait a BIT longer for the Samsung Galaxy IIIS? What are your thoughts or advice? Thanks...

I can't get interested in the iPhone, but the Galaxy IIIS has really good specs and is getting great reviews. Quad core CPU, 4.8" screen, good battery life, 1080p video, it goes on and on. If I were ready to upgrade this is the phone I would look at first. I believe in laying on hands though - when it becomes available go to the store and test drive it.

The US version of the Galaxy S III is a 1.5 ghz dual-core not a quad core. It appears all the US versions will be this way.

I just checked the pre-order page for Verizon and you're correct - 1.5ghz dual-core with 2 gigs of ram. I wonder why they chose to drop the quad-core? Still, it looks to be a great phone. It should be in the stores next month and then we'll start getting user feedback. 4G hardware + ICS is getting more mature and hopefully the 3S will be really solid. Some folks might feel the screen is actually too big, but I have big hands and the larger screen should make for easier reading.

The lack of LTE support in the Quad core processor is obviously critical - I wasn't aware of that. Agreed that it's not about the number of cores per se. As to quad core not performing any better than dual core in the "real world" I would just add "yet". Cores are an aspect of the architecture and their purpose is to improve performance, but yes that can't be taken for granted.

I've thought about that too, but WHEN will the iPhone 5 be out? I'm trying to hold out as long as possible but I am anxious to get rid of my droid x. I've had so many problems with it lately (dropped calls, unresponsive, shuts on/off when it wants, etc...). Ideally I would like to wait for the iPhone 5, just wish it was sooner than later.

I'm in the exact same boat. I've had my Droid X since it's release day almost two years ago. Mine is still ok, but slow compared to the new stuff. I can upgrade in 3 weeks (I traded my earler upgrade date with my son so he could get an iphone 4s for Christmas). I'm not sure what to get. I was thinking either the Razr Maxx, the Galaxy S3, or wait for the iphone 5 and see if I like it. Really not sure what to do yet.

They'll likely drop it this fall. Hold out, man. Obviously, you really want an iphone. Imagine how miffed you will be if you settle for another Droid handset and then the iphone5 is released.

Not sure if you're talking to the original poster or me, but I wouldn't say that I "obviously really want an iphone". After using a Droid X for two years the iphone 4 screen looks tiny to me. If the iphone 5 does have a larger screen like the rumors suggest, and if they finally put good turn-by-turn GPS navigation on it, I would seriously consider it. Otherwise I will gladly stick with Android. I just need to decide which one! 😕

The iSheep are people who without question go for the iPhone without considering other options seriously. I was an iSheep when I got my first phone (at the tender age of 17).
When considering my next phone, I weighed the options seriously: it was between the iPhone 4S and Galaxy S II. When the 4S was announced, I was sorely disappointed that it was a minor update and went with the Galaxy S II.
The important thing with any phone purchase is to weigh the options and pros and cons of each, rather than blindly following. It's just as easy to be an AndroidSheep as it is to be an iSheep.
