Okay so what is the true story? Can you or can't you be grandfathered into Unlimited data as long as you sign a 2 year deal? I was told by a Costco person selling Verizon phones that you can....I need the real story
Thanks

Oh, wow.
To lose your unlimited data:
1) Renew your contract.
2) Move the line to another account (assumption of liability).
3) Change your plan (such as to Share Everything).
To keep your unlimited data:
1) Buy a phone a full retail price (though I would worry about doing this from an indirect dealer - sorry to my peeps in that channel).
2) Activate a "used" phone that is not attached to a contract (again, indirect has been known to do this).
3) Never change your plan when it would effect the data plan, and do not move it from one account to another.
Costco? Really? Sorry, I wouldn't trust a place or person that has to send people elsewhere to get anything fixed.
...
Exactly. All you're going to do dealing with Costco is wind up in a corporate store whining or calling customer service crying about how you were lied to. Verizon's policy is clear on this. Sure most of us have complained about Verizon's greedy yet smart business practice concerning unlimited, but at the end of the day I am not doing ANYTHING to risk losing it. You shouldn't either.

Verizon has done a lot of work to close the loopholes without completely making it impossible to keep unlimited (which keeps the gov off its back).

I reeeeally, really wish Verizon had some sort of payment plan available similar to T-Mobile's Value Plan, where you pay $179-$199 and $20/mo for the next 20mo's,... not everybody has a whoppping $620-$700+ laying around to pay all at once towards a Galaxy S4 or Note III.
...
Verizon isn't the value carrier. They have no intention of competing head-to-head with T-Mobile and why should they?
...
Which sucks....I am a quandary...I'm a longtime Verizon customer that's very happy with his service. I like the fact that they have 4G where I live and very much want to upgrade to a new device. But I use alot of data streaming music and what not and don't want to get a share plan and have to worry going over my data allowance. At the same time I can't afford to go out and buy a new phone at full retail. So my only hope is to find a phone online on Craigs List or something...I dunno what to do anymore!!
...
Yeah you do. You save up for that full retail handset OR you get grandma to upgrade her feature phone to the one you want and then switch her back to her dinosaur and perform an ESN/MEID change via My Verizon. You DO NOT give up your Unlimited Data plan. Fran Shammo already TOLD all of us what Verizon's plans were. Seduce consumers into upgrading to LTE and giving up their Unlimited Data using the premise that they are not using 2GB RIGHT NOW. But Shammo announced to the shareholders that once consumers begin using LTE they WILL use more and eventually incur overages and pay them AND change to higher tier plans. In the end...Verizon always wins. That's why they sell YOU air.
...
"I'm a longtime Verizon customer that's very happy with his service."
Then why would you even consider leaving. Look, I am a disgruntled former employee who DESPISES Verizon with ever fiber of my being and I'm not going ANYWHERE. As long as I can keep the plan I have I'm staying. You should too.
...
I 2nd that!!! As a former Alltel employe who got fired right before the merger finished( Cause I had to surgery and others knew I would take their job )
...
Plus, all that is going to do is open the door for a customer to complain about their bill, and try to get the extra charge credited. Even if it is coded in a way that the charge cannot be "adjusted" they will want something else credited to make up for it. Pay the full up front and not deal with that headache.
Someone will "not remember" what they agreed to undoubtedly.

If you need financing, talk to Visa or Mastercard.
Issuing loans isn't something telecom companies should see as part of their core business model.
...
2. Transfer of liability does not make you lose unlimited data get your facts straight I have done several of these for people and sold lines on ebay that I bought with grandfathered unlimited data.

Nice username! Too bad most Americans don't realize "Liberals" aren't a political party it's a mental disease.

HAHA That was good !! (Great to see other people who have a brain on here!!)

Looking at this from the, shall we say, shadier side of the fence, there are a couple of ways that you can sign a 2 yr contract, get the subsidised pricing and still keep unlimited data.
However, all of these options involve signing contracts on different lines than the one with unlimited data. The two most common ways that i've seen in the indirect channel is either us a different upgrade on the account or start up a new line, get the new phone, put it on the old line and have an old flip phone or a Test Device esn on the new line. From what i understand, these methods are frowned apon from the Verizon peeps that be, but they exist.
Additionally, i've seen some interesting contract manipulation done with iPads, month to month co...

The only real issue is that I am the only one that has a line...Sadly no family plans that that will work on. Such is life
...
I mean, if you feel like paying for it, you can definately get an old Talk & Text plan and add a line while keeping your unlimited data...but the price you would be paying would be more than the unsubsidised price of the phone.
One think you might try is getting an HPC device and activate it as a Month to Month on your account, its only $20 a month (also cool if you already have home phone service). Use the upgrade on that month to month line, get a new phone, activate it on your unlimited data line and reactivate your HPC line.
That option will cost $400 for 20 months, but you will always have an upgrade that you can burn for new phones every 20 months.

Not sure what the site is....

Sorry, I pasted the wrong website. Because I read a webpage where it states that we cant keep our unlimited data service with Verizon. So I would like to know if there are ways that I can keep or i can have my unlimited data service.
...
Buy a phone at full retail price and you get to keep your unlimited data.
Buy a phone on eBay or other source without a contract renewal and you get to keep your unlimited data.
...
Great Idea. Unfortunately when your not working fulltime you really can't afford full retail and with ebay you don't know when your getting

I know right full retail who can afford that 600 plus bills for a phone is retarded, I will be signing a new contract and losing unlimited data with the new G'zOne Commando update comes out.

Are you being sarcastic?

No I use wifi at home and not that much data out and bout and can't justify spending that much money for my household but really want the new G'zOne when it hits
...
I guess your right. I can always dump unlimited data once and for all, I can use Wi/Fi at home as well. I do like to stream music from my phone to my car but I guess that'll have to take a back seat to listening to CD's or something else. Can I switch my regular plan to pre-paid since I am having issues paying my bill?
...

You can switch to a pre-paid plan (different plan), as long as you have a 3G phone.
...
Do the math. Check your bills and see how many GB's you average over 3-6 months. Based on that, figure out what level of GB's you would need on Verizon's Share Everything plans and add up a potential phone bill. Project that out over 24 months and see if the discount is better for you or if unlimited data is better. In my case I have 2 smartphones and a home phone connect, and with a shared bundle of 8GB to cover it my bill under Share Everything would go up about $40/mo. The typical smartphone discount is about $450, meaning I break even after only 11 months. If I keep unlimited data and buy my own phone I pay less over that 24 months, so to paraphrase the NRA, "they can have my unlimited data when they pry it from my cold, dead hands...
