I have verizon wireless for a little over a year now and i can not understand why everyone has the impression that they offer the worst phones? what makes the phones that other carriers like cingular and t-mobile offer any more amazing (aside from bluetooth which only a small percent of customers ACTUALLY use)? I find the lg6100 and cdm9900 EXCELLENT phones

I don't really understand it either. I have observed that most of the people who don't like our phones are phonescoop regulars. Phonescoop regualrs or cell phone afficianados are going to be selective in their cell phone, they want a phone that makes them cappucino and does their laundry. However, the majority of vzw subscribers want to just make and receive calls, that's it.
You gotta admit though that the Sidekick is pretty cool. Other than the sidekick other carrier cell phones aren't that special. So what if you can upload/download pics and ringtones via bluetooth for free, how many pics is one sending to their computer for free to offset the cost of spending an additional $5, probably not much so its just silly.

I don't even think it's that. I think it's the fact that Verizon governs the way we use our phones that causes other folks to balk at the handsets Verizon offers. Now, take me for instance. GSM phones entice the hell out of me...but I'm still of the belief that CDMA is a more reliable technology. So far I haven't had the need for any of the features a high end GSM handset would offer (except for a nice browser...I'd like to be able to take advantage of the true internet). Right now I'm happy with my Samsung a650...it's good at doing one thing...making cal...

available through the buisness section of verizon only.

Just an FYI, the retail channels can order the Global Phone if you really want it. Free FEDEX shipping to your doorstep, 2 day. There's no monthly charge to have the phone, so even if you barely travel you can still use it.

Absolutely they can. The phone is available through Direct Fill only, but it's not specific to Business channels only. If you want one, a VzW rep can get you one.

True, but you can buy it on ebay and activate it on the network w/o a problem. Or if you know someone w/ a business acount at Verizon, you can go that route. or if you are out of contract or close to it, put it at them like you will take your business elsewhere, which it sounds like you might. All things are negotiable my friend. 😁

I'd have to agree. My phone, for example, has never let me down, so I really don't get the 'VZW phones are crap' crap, 'cept of course for VZW's crippling of data transfer, which I agree does indeed blow.
But for most people, most of VZW's phones are quite good. Maybe its the lack of hyped/and or 'flashy' models that causes the perception? Though the new EV-DO phones certainly have a lot of features going for them.

Isn't a phone first and foremost a communication piece?? Nothing beats a little raver at a club with his glo in the dark cell phone that looks like a Christmas tree but doesn't place calls because his glo in the dark antenna doesn't actually function. You got people more worried about playing Video games and taking pictures. Why bother when there are 5 meg cameras the size of a credit card that take good pictures and not fuzzy crap? 1.3 meg camera phone, who cares. Flip out gaming doors on phones?? Whatever heppened to making a call being the idea and priority of a phone??

I don't know, my wish list is pretty simple and there isn't a Verizon phone that hits the mark. The newer ones are all flash and tend to fall short in the basics.
My wish list:
- Small enough to fit unobtrusively in a shirt pocket, but the phones coming out get bigger and bigger (LG VX-8000 is truly a joke).
- Decent battery life (2 - 3 days).
- Decent fit and finish (skip the cheap looking plastic of the V-265)
- Tri-mode with excellent RF (look at VZW's coverage map in terms of native VZW digital coverage and it suddenly becomes less impressive).
- No camera (some of us actually have jobs where we can't have cameras at the workplace)
- Professional sounding ringers.
- Outside monochrome display.

I take great offense to this comment. The vx-8000 is actually smaller than cingular's over-hyped RAZR V3 in all measurements except for thickness. And the 8000 has much more functionality (except for bluetooth).
Check the comparison for yourself:

Why on earth would you "take great offense" to someone not liking the size of a phone?
😕
Take offense if they say you carrier sucks.
Take offense if they say you suck.
To take offense if someone doesn't like the phone is just anal.
Did he even say he wanted a RazR?
Why bring up the thing?
Cingular also has phones that aren't as long or wide, but are thicker.
The LG is heavier and twice as thick as the Razr, but from the sounds of it, he would rather have a phone that's even smaller.
Did the v3 razr do something to you to make you mad?
Does the LG just sit on your store shelf?
Take a pill and let the guy choose whatever phone he wants and try not to get "greatly offended".
It's not like you made the phon...

I did not take great offense with him not liking the size of the phone. I took offense to someone posting an uninformed statement like "the phone is HUGE." It (the VX-8000) may appear large, but if people would actually take the time to do some research and look at the specs, it is not like this is the biggest phone made since the nokia 2160. There are a number of phones out right now that are the same size or larger. I was just using the RAZR as an example.
I just wish people would quit bashing the phone selection on VZW. They supply some GREAT phones if people would just do their research instead of making uninformed comments. Granted, some of their phones are absolute garbage, but the high end ones are phenomenal.

Taste in phones is a subjective thing. Numbers don't always tell the whole story. I looked at the 8000 yesterday and its a bulky phone - too thick to pass the shirt pocket test. The V3, while being taller and wider, has a lot less bulk and passes the test. If you have the 8000, fine. I hope you enjoy it, but just don't ask me to carry it around for you.

Text messaging has become very popular and a great source of revenue for the cell companies. Why hasn't Verizon offered a phone with a qwerty or thumb keyboard yet that is not a PDA/phone? This is why they have the worst phones. Everyone else has and there are a lot of people who want them. Bluetooth is important as well because this application or one better in the future will probably allow you to use your cell phone to shop at stores and vending machines instead of credit cards. My opinion is the current phones are crappy and the manufacturers are partially at fault as we see with Nokia who now realizes it needs to offer more phones with CDMA technology. I make it a point to go to a company's web site and tell them what I like, disli...

I have to agree that Verizon needs QWERTY keyboard phones. I myself do a lot of text messaging, especially at work, and in fact bought a TREO600 for this purpose. Concerned that others would have my concern I asked my manager why we don't carry those phones and it's pretty simple. Verizon Wireless used to have text messaging centered devices, and they never sold. I realize times have changed, but even as I look back at my career with Cingular, about a year ago, we never sold that many of the QWERTY keyboard phones. At this point, I just believe there isn't enough demand on VZW's end to go ahead and have the manufacturers start sending us these phones, especially when the Treo will solve that problem and is relatively cheap considering.
...
Can you purchase the TREO600 just to use as a low end phone without having to get unlimited access to some data plan? I do not think it would hurt if Verizon offered one or two low end models with the keyboards. I only see one or two offered by each of the other carriers. My family is typical in the fact that we are all traveling in different directions, especially during the work week. Text messages help us greatly because you are not always able to answer the cell phone. You will not see us like some people talking on the phone and trying to cash out at a register or conduct business with a bank teller. A simple text message "bring dinner home" says it all, lol.
HAVE GOOD ONE MY FRIEND!

BEWARE, though. The Treo 600 utilizes "always on" capability. If you're on a pay as you go data usage, you'll want to power cyle your phone after you've completed your data usage, otherwise you'll remain connected (there are two horizontal green arrows pointing in oppsite directions just abouve the signal indicator on the Treo 600, they tell you you're connected).

maybe you should go to the Winter CES show sometimes. You'll see all the good phones there. THis past CES show in Vegas, if you go to Motorola's area, you'll notice the VZW phones moto carries are the crappiest of all the moto phones there. If you check out Nokia, Samsung, the same is true. These manufacturers are concentrating on the GSM world and ignoring the CDMA folks like VZW. If you don't VZW have the worst phones, maybe you should try to attend next year's CES, then you'll know what i'm talking about.
...
Perhaps to some extent, but this is changing. Nokia, for example, has gone on record recently saying that they're going to be introducing more CDMA models for the North American market, and focusing more closely on that market.
There's well over 200 million CDMA users worldwide out there... plenty of phones to be sold. Guess Nokia is waking up to that finally.
