Phone batteries
After watching this site for several years and owning many phones (currently IP4). the improvements and technology is amazing. My question, there doesn't seem to be much improvement in the batteries. Phones can to most everything, but the battery life seems just as poor as couple years ago. Wife seems to have to charge her I4 by the middle of the afternoon everyday. Is there any big improvements coming.

Phone batteries are advancing but not nearly as fast as phone technology. If you were to take your phone and talk on it constantly right after a charge, you'd expect 6 hours or more. That's light years ahead of where we were 5 or 6 years ago.
Unfortunately we expect more than ever from our devices. They're constantly connected to the data network and constantly being tapped and used as gaming and work devices. Would you ever expect your laptop to get you through an entire day of constant use?

It's easy.
Go into the settings of the iPhone... turn off 3G data when you're not using it. Turn off location services. Turn off push notifications. Use Wi-Fi whenever available. Turn the brightness down. You'd be surprised how much longer your battery lasts. On turning off the 3G radio alone, my iPhone 3GS went from barely lasting a day to lasting through two days and into a third before I need to charge it.
Also, double-tap the home button and close the apps that are running in the background. That sucks up data and battery too.

Only charge the phone, if you can help it, when it's below 20% charge. The lower the better. Don't leave it plugged in at 100% unless you're syncing or updating software. Frequent charging, and charging when its full, can weaken the battery. Charging it all the way up, then using it until its dead is the best way to promote better battery help, with pretty much any battery.
